The 31st March is WORLD BACK UP DAY – a day designed to promote awareness of the importance of having a backup plan for all of your digital data. While some of you may already have a backup (or three!) of your important data, many people either don’t know what a backup is or keep putting it off as something to do when they have the time to get around to doing it…probably.
Unfortunately, many people have also found themselves learning about the importance of backing up when it’s already too late – whether they’ve been suddenly confronted with the ever alarming “blue screen of death”, a device that simply refuses to turn on, or have been the unfortunate victim of a phishing scam or malware attack.
While backing up isn’t the most thrilling thing to do, it can save a lot of time, money, and heartache – especially if the data you lose is of significant emotional or financial value to you or to your business.
And This Is Where Label Planet Comes In!
While we aren’t suppliers of backup software or experts on how to create the perfect backup plan, we do have a few label products that can help you get your digital data organised.
We supply a range of self-adhesive labels that are specifically designed for labelling all kinds of media devices, from the small to the even smaller. These labels are supplied on A4 sheets and can be printed with laser printers and inkjet printers or handwritten as needed. They are all label sizes that have been specifically selected with storage devices in mind and can be used to add a subtle reminder of the contents of a device (OR a GIANT reminder to keep that particular device safe and sound so you know exactly what stuff you’ve got stored and where).
We supply Word templates & PDF templates for all of these labels (Visit “Templates For Special Use Labels”) so you can download the template you need immediately and get on with backing up your all-important data.
Visit our MEDIA LABELS page now to order brilliantly useful labels for backing up lots of important data.

Yes, today is Saint Patrick’s Day, and celebrations are taking place all around the world in honour of Saint Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland.
Did You Know:
- March 17th is the Feast Day of Saint Patrick because it is the traditional date given for his death.
- Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, Nigeria, and Montserrat, as well as engineers and paralegals – he is also invoked for protection against snakes, sins, and witchcraft.
- Saint Patrick adopted the name Patrick (or “Patricius” in its original Latin form); his real birth name is unknown, although “Maewyn Succat” is commonly used.
- While he is the patron saint of Ireland, he was actually born in Roman Britain – locations in both Wales and Scotland have claimed to be his actual place of birth.
- Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations involve a LOT of green because green is traditionally used as the national colour of Ireland BUT Saint Patrick is also associated with blue and “Saint Patrick’s Blue” is used as the official colour of state, featuring on the Irish coat of arms and the presidential standard of the President of Ireland. Blue is also used as an official colour by a variety of Irish universities, sports teams, and military units.
- The shamrock is associated with Saint Patrick’s Day because a traditional story claims that Saint Patrick used the three leaves of the shamrock to explain the Christian Holy Trinity – it has since become associated with Ireland and is often used as one of the traditional symbols of Ireland. The shamrock itself is a type of clover – although there remains some dispute as to whether or not the shamrock is a specific variety of clover (with Trifolium dubium (lesser trefoil) and Trifolium repens (white clover) being the two varieties most commonly considered to be shamrocks).

Label Planet: High Tack Vs Super Tack - Which Sticky Label Has The Stickiest Stick For Sticky Situations?
One of our newest label products is our range of SUPER TACK labels, which form one half of our “Very Sticky” group of labels (along with our HIGH TACK labels). Both of these ranges feature paper labels (suitable for printing with inkjet and laser printers or for handwriting) with very strong permanent adhesives that are designed to stay firmly in place on a variety of surfaces.
Our High Tack labels and Super Tack labels were designed to be suitable for applications that require labels that are extremely difficult to remove, that can sustain an adhesive bond over a long period of time, that can adhere to materials and/or surfaces that standard permanent adhesives fail to bond with properly, or for applications that may involve (temporary) exposure to lower temperatures.
So what’s the difference between High Tack and Super Tack?
The only difference between our High Tack and Super Tack labels is the adhesive; both are made with very strong permanent adhesives but the adhesive on our super tack labels has been specially formulated and manufactured to maximise its initial tack and ultimate tack.
What’s “initial tack” and “ultimate tack”?
Our labels are all made with “pressure sensitive adhesives” – i.e. adhesives that only require the pressure of a finger or hand to create an adhesive bond. Pressure sensitive adhesives have two stages of adhesion – the initial tack and the ultimate tack. The initial tack describes the strength of the adhesive bond that is created at the moment of contact between the adhesive and a surface, while the ultimate tack describes the strength of the adhesive bond once it has fully strengthened and set.
Therefore, if a standard permanent adhesive has “good” initial tack and “good” ultimate tack, our high tack labels offer “very good” initial tack and “very good” ultimate tack, while our super tack labels offer “excellent” initial tack and “excellent” ultimate tack.
So why choose High Tack Labels or Super Tack Labels?
The strength of the adhesives used to make these labels makes them an ideal choice if you want your labels to remain firmly in place for a long time – even if the label application will involve exposure to lower temperatures. They’re also perfect if you find that standard permanent adhesives struggle to bond with the surface or material that you are trying to label; for example, standard labels may struggle to adhere to curved containers (such as bottles and jars) and fabric or plastic items (such as material swatches and samples or plastic bags and boxes).
Our HIGH TACK LABELS are available in fourteen stocked sizes (available for same day despatch in packs of 25 sheets) and thirty made to order sizes (available to order in boxes of 500 sheets), while our SUPER TACK LABELS are available in eleven stocked sizes and thirty-three made to order sizes.
Remember, you can always use our free sample request service to request a sample of our high tack labels and/or super tack labels to find out which of our sticky labels have enough stick for your sticky situation!

You might not know it but today is “Middle Name Pride Day” – a day for taking all of those middle names that are usually hidden away on forms and official bits of paperwork and bringing them out into the daylight for a big old celebration!
Middle names are often used for “special” names, for example, to honour family members and relatives, to celebrate important things in a family’s life (such as important places, months, or ideals), or simply to have some fun with a slightly “out there” name – that can be used or hidden away depending on whether or not the child finds the name exceptionally good or exceptionally embarrassing later in life.
For most people, their middle name is actually a big part of what makes them “unique” – while you might share your first name with a lot of people, the combination of your first name and middle name can feel much more uniquely “you”.
So, we’ve taken a look at our past orders to have a bit of an investigation into the middle names chosen by our customers…
For girls, the runaway success has to be “Rose”, which was our most popular middle name by far – followed (at a slight distance) by “May/Mae/Mai”. For boys, “J names” proved most popular, with “James” and “John” taking the two top spots.
While traditional names were the most popular choices for middle names, we also found that plenty of parents had decided to get a bit more creative with their middle names, with inspiration coming from all kinds of sources, including animals, nature, myths and legends, and a few pop culture icons as well. Some of our favourites include:
Artemis, Astrid, Belle, Blue, Bluebell, Clover, Cruz, Fox, Harper, Hunter, Star, Storm, Tinkerbell, Valentine, Xena, Wren, Zen, Zephyr, Zigi.
While we don’t get to see all of the middle names that our customers have chosen, we do get a fair amount of initials, and we found a few surprises in our order history:
- “J” is the most popular letter by far, followed by “A”, “M”, “E”, “L”, and “R”.
- Least popular is “U”, which had a very unfortunate year in 2016 and appeared in absolutely no orders as a middle initial, followed by “Q”, “Y”, “X”, and “V”, while “Z” proved to be our most popular “unpopular” letter.
- Girls were most likely to have middle names starting with “R” or “M”, while boys were most likely to have “J” or “A”.
- While “Q”, “U”, “X”, and “Y” names were all as equally (unpopular) with our customers for boys and girls, “Z” and “C” names had equal popularity.
- The biggest gaps were between the letters “G”, “I”, and “M” (which were much more popular for girls than boys) and “D”, “H”, and “W” (which were much more popular for boys than girls).
Did You Know: we run a Fundraising Scheme for schools, PTAs, and other activity/youth groups and clubs to allow them to raise money by earning commission on sales of Stikins ® name labels. Schools and groups can earn up to 30% commission on orders of name labels, which they can then put towards any ongoing fundraising goals and projects. There’s no membership fee to pay and no ongoing costs; simply fill in our one-stop registration form to start fundraising all year round!
We’ve just given our Fundraising pages a bit of a makeover to make them even better and easier to use. To take a look and find out more, simply head on over to our Fundraising Home Page today!

Label Planet: Have You Tried The Label Planet Label Finder Yet? – Find The Perfect Label For The Job With A Few Simple Clicks!
Whether you have absolutely no idea what sort of labels you need to buy or you know exactly what you want but not if they’re available from Label Planet, the Label Finder is your one stop shop to find the perfect label for you!
We’ve loaded all of our label products (and their most important features) into the Label Finder so that all you need to do is tell the Label Finder what your labels need to be like and it will give you a shortlist of any labels that fit the bill. You can then use the filters to narrow down your options even further, take a look at some alternatives that you hadn’t thought of before, or simply click on the product that you want to buy!
You can narrow your search in all sorts of ways, including searching by:
Our “Label Use” category provides a (not at all complete) list of some of the most popular label applications that our customers purchase labels for – and each category has been matched with the label products that we feel are best suited to those particular uses.
We highly recommend selecting your printer type (e.g. laser printer, inkjet printer etc) because some of our labels are suitable for ONE printing method only (i.e. they are laser labels or they are inkjet labels), while others can be used with EITHER printing method (i.e. they are laser AND inkjet labels) - this means you can instantly get rid of any products that your printer cannot print in the first place.
You can also use the smaller filters to identify the properties that your labels absolutely HAVE TO HAVE if they are to be suitable for your unique application. For example, you may need a specific size of label (so that the labels will fit on the item you are labelling), or you may need waterproof labels (so that they can be used or stored outside), or you may simply have a strong preference for what your labels should look like (for example, you may want a particular colour to match an existing scheme or you may want transparent labels with no colour at all).
Remember, you can also use our free Sample Request Service to request a sample of the options that you like the look of, or – if you’re having any problems choosing the right labels for the job – you can contact our Customer Service Team, who will be more than happy to answer any questions and queries that you may have.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: We’re Celebrating WORLD WILDLIFE DAY With Baby Names That Take A Walk On The Wild Side!
Today is World Wildlife Day – a day dedicated to celebrating and raising awareness of the world’s wildlife. Each year, World Wildlife Day is given a theme and this year the theme is “Listen to the young voices”.
With this in mind, we thought we’d take a look at the names that we’ve printed over the last year and celebrate the young voices with names inspired by nature – (especially as the closest thing to wildlife here in our office is a rather alarming number of potted plants and Harvey the Stikins ® Dog who isn’t so much wild as extremely mild.)
For boys, the most popular wildlife-inspired names are based on five animals – Lions, Bears, Dogs, Wolves – and Doves!
While the most popular group is lion-based names (including Leo, Leon, and Lionel), the single most popular name is actually Callum – which is a Gaelic name meaning “Dove” – while the sixth most popular name is another dove-inspired name: Jonah.
Our third and fourth most popular groups are names that mean “Bear” (including “Arthur” and “Orson”) and “Dog” (represented by “Caleb” and its variant “Kaleb”), while our fifth most popular group (the wolves) has the most variations – including names as diverse as Channing, Conan, Lyall, Lycan, Rudy, and Wolfram.
For girls, inspiration comes from Sheep, Antelope, Birds, and Lions.
The first group includes both “Una” (which means “Lamb”) and the most popular wildlife-themed name “Rachel” (meaning “Ewe”). The second group includes “Tabitha”, which you might be inclined to think of as a name associated with cats although it’s actually an Aramaic name meaning “Gazelle”.
Birds are represented by the names “Paloma” meaning “Dove” and “Merle” meaning “Blackbird” (along with “Robin” and “Wren”), while the lion is represented by feminine versions of “Leo” such as “Leona” and “Leonie”.
Animals are also a popular inspiration for nicknames; amongst our customers, “Bear” and “Teddy” are the most popular animal-based nicknames for boys, while girls are most likely to have cat-inspired nicknames, such as “Cat” and “Kitty” – although we also love the "big cat" nickname chosen by one of our customers: “Tiger”.
(We’re also very fond of the nickname “Wolfie”!)
We hope you take some time this weekend to celebrate the wonderful (and sometimes weird) wildlife that we live with on our planet; whether you go big and take a trip to a zoo, garden centre, aquarium, or wildlife park to learn more about the world around us or you stay a little closer to home and just spend some time giving your pets (or your garden's wildlife) a little extra TLC.
Remember, you can request ANY name when you buy name labels from Label Planet – whether you want to stick to a simple First Name & Surname format or you prefer to include a personal nickname – and you can use our multipurpose Stikins ® name labels to label pretty much ANYTHING (including any walking boots and equipment you use to spend more time in the great outdoors or even labelling those all-important boxes of pet treats so there won’t be any arguments – or unfortunate mix ups!)

Label Planet: It’s The First Day Of (Meteorological) Spring, So Here’s A Blog About Waterproof Labels (Ideal For All Those Spring Showers)
Yes, today is both Saint David’s Day and the first day of Meteorological Spring, so we thought it was the perfect time to take a closer look at our range of WATERPROOF LABELS, which are ideal for any labelling application that might involve exposure to water.
All of the labels in our Waterproof Labels range are made with a waterproof adhesive and a waterproof synthetic face material; our range includes polyester labels, polyethylene labels, and polyolefin labels.
All of our waterproof labels will survive being exposed to or submerged in water – AND they’re all extremely tough and durable, which means that they’ll remain firmly in place and perfectly legible, even if you’re looking for long lasting tracking labels that need to survive in both indoor and outdoor conditions.
If you need to create waterproof PRINTED labels, you will need to use a laser printer. This is because laser printers use a dry printing process to bond a dry powder (toner) into place using heat and/or pressure – this produces waterproof print.
Inkjet printers, meanwhile, disperse inks onto a surface where they dry in place to form a printed image – the problem with this printing method is that the inks used in inkjet printers tend to be water-based, which means that the print will smudge and/or run if it get wets. It IS possible to buy inks that are not water-based (and/or have been specially treated to make them waterproof) but these tend to be highly specialised inks that are more expensive and less commonly available.
So, what labels do we supply in our Waterproof Labels range?
We currently supply ELEVEN label products within our Waterproof Labels range (plus our GCP labels, which are waterproof in themselves BUT would need to be printed with specialist inkjet materials to produce waterproof printed labels).
These products provide our customers with a variety of options so that they can choose a label that best suits their particular application and the overall look that they want to achieve.
WHITE, SILVER, OR TRANSPARENT
One choice is that of “colour”; our waterproof labels are available in white labels, silver labels, or transparent labels. The white waterproof labels are ideal if you want a blank, clear background for your labels, our silver waterproof labels are popular for use on high value goods as long lasting asset ID labels, and our transparent waterproof labels are perfect for use on transparent surfaces or to avoid issues with colour matching.
GLOSS OR MATT
Another choice is between a gloss finish and a matt finish; the gloss finish reflects light more efficiently to produce a bright and shiny appearance – while the matt finish is less efficient at reflecting light, which produces a dull, non-shiny appearance. A gloss finish is popular for use on product labels (due to its decorative appearance), while the matt finish is ideal for labelling surfaces that also have a matt finish so that the label neatly blends in as a subtle addition to an item or surface.
PERMANENT OR REMOVABLE
While the majority of our waterproof labels use a permanent adhesive, we do have two options (MWR and GTR) with removable adhesives. While a permanent adhesive is ideal if you want your labels to remain firmly in place (and to be difficult to remove), the removable adhesive is ideal if you want to add a durable and professional looking label to an item or surface on a temporary basis only – so that you can remove the label when it is no longer needed without damaging the item or surface in the process.
MARINE QUALITY ADHESIVE
Three of our waterproof labels also feature a special marine adhesive that has been designed specifically for use in outdoor (marine) conditions. The adhesive has been extensively tested and conforms to the BS5609 Part 2 standard for marine immersion, which is an internationally recognised standard and indicates that a particular label product is of extremely high quality and is a strong and durable product that is suitable for use in challenging marine conditions.
The three products that feature this adhesive are our Matt White Polyester Labels (MWP), Matt White Polyethylene Labels (MWPE), and Matt White Polyolefin Labels (MWPO). These three labels are our strongest and most durable waterproof labels and are ideal for any label application – indoor or outdoor – that needs a long lasting label that will remain firmly in place, even if it gets wet.
You can view ALL of our Waterproof Label products on our aptly named Waterproof Labels page. You can find out more about each product by visiting its dedicated range page OR you can use our free sample request service to give them a try before you buy!
