Stikins ® & Trons ®: Schools – Give Your Fundraising Efforts A Boost With Our Commission Booster Plan

Tomorrow is the last day of our current commission year, which means that in the next few weeks our fundraising partners will receive their commission cheques to add to their ongoing fundraising projects. If you are one of these schools or PTAs and you decide that you’d like to see if you can beat this year’s earnings next year then we highly recommend taking a look at our Commission Booster Plan.

This Booster Plan is based on feedback from our existing fundraising partners, our experience of running a commission scheme (which has been going now for over 12 years), and from our own research into how well (or not) our partners have done after joining our scheme.

We’ve aimed to create a fundraising scheme that gives schools and PTAs a really easy way to support their fundraising projects with minimal time and effort required to run the scheme; our Booster Plan provides schools with a few simple (and completely free) ways that they can quickly and easily promote awareness of the scheme and boost the amount of commission that they receive.

6 Small Things That Make A Huge Difference:
  1. Schools/PTAs with an individual who is willing to spend a little time promoting the scheme to parents often find that a little passion goes a long way and inspires a much better response from parents – and helps to keep your Fundraising Efforts that extra bit more organised!
  2. Add one of our posters to your PTA or school noticeboard as a reminder to parents; they can take a photo of the poster on their phone, which means they’ll have all the information they need to place an order (along with your fundraising number) whenever they decide they need some name labels.
  3. Put a link to our site on your school or PTA website; this makes it quick and easy for parents to reach our site (which makes it more likely that they’ll take the time to order) AND you can create a link that will automatically fill in your fundraising number on any order placed by following that link (so if parents forget to do it, their order will still count towards your commission total – you’ll also qualify for our higher rate of commission at 30%).
You may also want to use this link to promote the benefits of ordering name labels to parents; for example, they will be raising money for the school AND buying a product that will help to prevent them (and you) from having to deal with the problem of lost property.
  4. Send parent leaflets home with a covering letter from the school or PTA – again, you can use this letter to promote ALL of the benefits of buying and using name labels, perhaps with some additional details about the projects that will be supported by the commission you earn from our fundraising scheme.
Alternatively, you may wish to send out an email or text message to let parents know about the scheme.
  5. Rally support amongst the school and PTA; we have a PowerPoint presentation on our website that you can use to explain to interested parties how the scheme works.
  6. Organise your fundraising efforts by making a check list of what you are going to do to promote the scheme along with a note of what needs doing when and by whom.
You can also visit our website to take advantage of our free “helpful extras”, which include the following:
  • Free parent leaflets & labels to distribute to parents so that they know how to order and what fundraising number they need to use.
  • Free poster for your PTA or office notice board.
  • Free Stikins ® name labels as prizes for events such as Christmas or Summer fairs.
  • Free Fundraising Guide with tips and advice for getting the most out of our fundraising scheme.
  • Free example parent letters (or emails) to boost the numbers of parents who order name labels.
  • A fundraising portal on our site that allows you to keep track of how much commission you’ve earned so far.
  • The opportunity to double your commission from 15% to 30% simply by adding a link to your school or PTA website.
You can find all of these resources on our website, by clicking on the purple “Fundraising” button on the left hand side and selecting from the “School Requests”, “Really Useful Downloads”, “Linking Your Site To Us”, and “School Login” links. Alternatively, simply Get In Touch and our Customer Service Team will be happy to help!

Label Planet: Website News – Our Template Project Is Almost Finished

If you’re a frequent visitor to the Label Planet Blog (or the Label Planet site), you may be aware that we have been working away to improve the Templates Section of our website to make it bigger and better than ever.

As part of our template revamp, we’re creating brand new sets of templates (in Word and PDF formats) for all of our label sizes (including Portrait & Landscape options, Text Box & Mirrored Text Box options, and Bleed templates – where possible), along with a “Template Information Page” for each label size that we supply.

The template information pages provide more detailed information about each label size we supply, including measurements and compatible Avery template codes (where applicable), along with tips and advice for printing that particular label size and layout. You can also download a printing template from this page and see, at a glance, all of the different material and adhesive options available for each label size.

We’re delighted to announce that our revamp is almost complete; all of the new information pages are available for customers to peruse, while we’re working hard to complete all of the new template sets for all of our label sizes. Currently, we have created complete Word & PDF template sets for our Rectangular Labels and our Round Labels; Word template sets for our Square Labels, Oval Labels, and Special Use Labels have been added to our website with the PDF sets in development at this very moment – we’ll be adding these sets as soon as they’re done!

To find the template information page for your Label Planet labels, you can either:
  • VISIT OUR TEMPLATE HOME PAGE: click on the link for your label shape, find your label size in the table, and click on the “More Info” link to navigate to the template information page for that particular size and layout.
  • VISIT THE PRODUCT PAGE OF YOUR LABELS: click on the purple “Label Templates And Printing Information For This Label” link to visit the template information page for your labels.
You can now download a template by visiting our Template Home page and selecting the link for the label shape you want to print (find your label size in the table and select the Word or the PDF portrait template) OR by visiting the Template Information page for your label size and selecting the template you would like to download.

We recommend that you choose to “save” rather than “open” your template if you are given the choice; you can then use your software to open the saved template (“File” > “Open”), which will allow your software to check if the template is compatible before you start designing your template.

If you are unable to edit your template, it may have been temporarily locked – simply click on the (yellow) “Enable Editing” button or banner at the top of the page to unlock your template and add your design. If you find that your Word template appears to be completely blank (with the Label Planet code repeating across the page), it is likely that Table Gridlines are turned off. To turn Table Gridlines on you should left click once in the centre of your template, select the Table Tools “Layout” tab at the top of the page, and click on “View Gridlines” (Word 2007 onwards, Word For Mac 2016); alternatively, select the “Table Layout” tab, and click “Gridlines” (Word For Mac 2011).

Visit our Template Home page to find a label template or visit our Advice Home page to find even more helpful resources, including our Sample Request service, answers to Frequently Asked Questions, and a variety of helpful tips.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: Schools – Last Chance To Double Your Commission For 2015/16!

Friday is the 30th September and the last day in our current commission year, which means that soon we’ll be getting to work adding up all of the commission that our school & PTA fundraising partners have earned this year and preparing to send out those all-important cheques.

It also means that this is your last chance to double the commission that you earn for this commission year!

All of our fundraising partners earn a basic rate of 15% commission on any sale of name labels that we receive where their unique fundraising number has been quoted. To qualify for our higher rate of commission – at a fantastic 30% – all you need to do is add a link to your school or PTA site.

  1. Boost your commission rate to 30%.
Not only will you be moved onto our higher rate of commission but we will also backdate this rate to include any commission that you have earned so far during the current commission year (1st October 2015 – 30th September 2016). Plus, as long as the link remains active, you will remain on the higher rate of commission year after year – with absolutely no need to remember to renew or reactivate your higher rate of commission.
  1. Boost the total amount of commission you earn each year.
Adding a link is one of the easiest and most effective ways to boost the amount of commission that you receive from our fundraising scheme; the link makes it extremely easy for parents to order from us (they simply click on the link to instantly be directed to our site) AND you can create a link that will automatically add your fundraising number to any order that is placed by following the link (so even if parents forget which fundraising number to use or simply forget to add a fundraising number altogether, their order will still count towards your fundraising total).
Full instructions can be found on our “Linking Your Site To Us” page; your have a choice of adding a simple text link or a full colour banner that will really stand out.

If you want to add a simple text link, you text should be embodied with a URL as follows:
(where the “12345” is replaced with your unique fundraising number)

To add a banner link, you can use our HTML Code Generator; simply select the size of banner you would prefer to use and our website will generate the HTML code that you need to add to your website to create the banner.

You may also want to include a few sentences along with your link to help promote the use of name labels AND boost your fundraising efforts; for example, you may want to explain how name labels can help to reduce the amount of Lost Property that parents and staff have to deal with, explain how buying name labels from us can help to raise money for the school, or perhaps even provide parents with a bit of information about the fundraising projects that will be supported by the commission earned on orders of name labels.

You can add your link to whatever part of your site you like; most of our school and PTA partners will usually add their link to the home page, uniform page, parent page, useful links page, or fundraising page (or some combination of these).

If you’re not yet a member of our fundraising scheme, then head on over to our Fundraising Section, which includes information about how our scheme works, a registration page, and plenty of (completely free!) helpful extras to help you promote the scheme to parents.

Remember, if you want to receive our 30% rate of commission you must have a WORKING link on your site AND you have to let us know about it! Once you’ve added a link, get in touch with our Customer Service Team OR fill in the Commission Claim Form at the bottom of our “Linking Your Site To Us” page – we’ll confirm that your link is up and working and then upgrade your school to our top rate of commission.

If you’ve already got a link or if you aren’t sure what level of commission your school is currently earning, simply get in touch and we can confirm if your school is set up on our basic or our boosted rate of commission.

Label Planet: Brighten Up The Autumn Months With Our Fantastic Selection Of Coloured Labels

With the autumn months (and weather) on the way, it’s a good time to take a look at our brilliant range of coloured labels, which are a wonderfully quick and easy way to add a burst or bloom of colour to any labelling application or project that you’re working on this autumn.

Whether you’re in a creative mood or you’re looking for an easy way to brighten things up a bit, coloured labels are an instant way to add a colourful background to whatever design or information you want to add to your labels.

At Label Planet, we have a range of coloured labels, which can be printed with standard desktop printers or can be handwritten (for the truly creative types out there!); our coloured range includes seven pastel colours (for a gentle background colour), five fluorescent colours (for a vibrant eye-catching burst of colour), two metallic colours (for a luxurious touch of shine and texture), and a fantastic brown Kraft paper (which has a ribbed finish for extra pattern and texture).

Pastel Colours
Choose between: Crimson Red, Orange-Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink, Cream
Suitable for use with laser printers, inkjet printers, and for handwriting.
Ideal for: adding a coloured background that introduces a subtle touch of colour to your items (without being too overwhelming); our crimson red, orange-red, and yellow pastel colours are particularly seasonal if you’re looking for an autumnal feel to suit a seasonal theme.

Fluorescent Colours
Choose between: Red, Orange, Lemon, Green, Magenta
Suitable for use with laser printers, and for handwriting.
Ideal for: getting attention! These fluorescent colours are designed to attract attention and make your design/text and items really stand out from the crowd; these labels are perfect if you need to make your items as eye-catching as possible or if you want to give your items a dazzling boost of colour. Again, the red, orange, and lemon (yellow) options are the most seasonal colours to go for (and the orange is particularly ideal if you’re thinking ahead to Halloween festivities!).

Metallic Colours
Choose between: Gold, Silver
Suitable for use with laser printers, and for handwriting.
Ideal for: adding a luxurious touch of shimmer and shine; our metallic labels have an attractive semi-gloss, textured finish, which makes them a gorgeous addition to any project that needs to have a highly decorative finish.

Brown Kraft Paper
Suitable for use with laser printers, inkjet printers, and for handwriting.
Ideal for: projects of a crafty kind! Kraft paper has long been a staple of the arts and crafts world and is a brilliant material for use on homemade and handcrafted items – whether you are selling items to customers or making gifts for friends and family. The brown ribbed paper has lovely colouring, with a gentle touch of pattern and texture, which gives it a wonderful finish that is just perfect for adding a natural and autumnal feel to your items.

Our coloured labels are available either in packs of 25 sheets (stocked sizes only) or boxes of 500 sheets; if you wat to mix and match items to get a range of colours and label sizes, we highly recommend getting in touch with us as we may be able to offer you a better price based on the exact assortment that you would like to order.

(Please note, we cannot split a pack or box between two or more sizes and/or colours, although we do offer some “Assorted Packs” within our range of pastel coloured labels.)

Visit our Coloured Labels List to view all of the different colours available from Label Planet; use the “View Products” links to find out more about a particular label product, view the label sizes available, or to place an order.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: FAQ – Can I Split A Pack Between Two (Or Three Or Four Or More) Names?

The Short Answer:
No; all of the labels within a single pack must be printed with the same text.

The Long(er) Answer:
No BUT you can get a bit creative with the text that you request so that you can SHARE a pack between two (or more) people.

Here are the most popular ways that our customers create packs of name labels that can be shared:

If you enter just your family surname, you can use your name labels for ANY member of your family, in the knowledge that any lost items will be returned to the right family (if not with the right individual).

You can choose to enter just your surname (select “Name on one line”) or you might want to combine this with a piece of contact information such as a phone number (enter your surname on one line and your phone number on the other line) or perhaps add a friendly message (e.g. “Please Return To”, “Property Of”, or “This Belongs To/The Surname Family”).

If your children share an initial, you could add this initial to help make your labels slightly more personal than adding a surname only AND to help avoid mix ups if your child shares their surname with another child in their class.

You could also choose to enter your surname on the bottom line and enter a blank space on the top line to leave yourself room to write in the name that you need a label for. This way you can decide exactly how many labels within a pack are used for each child. Make sure you use a suitable pen (for example, a laundry pen) so that whatever you write onto your labels will stay in place even after repeat trips through the washing machine.

There are a few ways to create individual name labels from a single pack by cutting your labels in half or by cutting off one end. For example, you could enter one full name on the top line and one full name on the bottom line and then cut your labels in two OR you could enter “name/initial 1” followed by “surname” followed by “name/initial 2” onto one line and then cut off one of the ends to create individual name labels.

If you absolutely want your children’s names to be on their labels and you don’t fancy cutting your labels apart, you can always opt for the simple option of adding all of the names onto your labels.
Usually, our customers will do this by adding “Name 1 or Name 2” or “Name 1 & Name 2” to the top line and the surname to the bottom line; if you need to add multiple first names (especially if some or all of them are quite long), you may need to split the first names over the two lines rather than adding them all to the top line.

For more tips & advice, take a read through our Blog Posts or visit our Frequently Asked Questions page. To place an order for your own pack (or packs) of name labels, please visit our Stikins ® product page (to start with a pack of stick on name labels) or our Trons ® product page (to start with a pack of iron-on name transfers).

Label Planet: FAQ – Should I Choose Paper Or Polyester Labels / Coloured Or Transparent Labels / Gloss Or Matt Labels?

At Label Planet, we like to offer our customers the best possible variety of label options to choose from; in addition to providing as many label sizes as we can, we also like to offer those sizes in a range of materials (where possible), so that customers can find the perfect label for their particular application.

To find the perfect label, there are THREE main choices that you need to make – label size, adhesive, and material.

The first two are usually easier to deal with because they are the most strongly influenced by the practical requirements of your label application; you choose the size that fits and the adhesive that will allow your labels to stay in place (or come away) as needed.

For example, you HAVE to choose a label size that will fit neatly onto your items and that is big enough to hold all of the information or design work that you want to add. You also need to make sure that adhesive you choose is suitable for the surface type you are labelling (e.g. by choosing a stronger adhesive for curved surfaces and unusual materials), suitable for the environmental conditions of your application (e.g. by choosing a deep freeze adhesive for items that will be stored in a freezer), and suitable for the application in hand (e.g. by choosing a removal adhesive if you need temporary labels that won’t do any damage when they are removed).

When it comes to choosing the right material, however, it can be a bit more difficult – while there are some label applications with practical factors that will determine the type of material you can use (e.g. you will HAVE to choose one of our polyester or polyethylene materials if you want waterproof labels), it is much more likely that you will end up choosing the material that best fits your own personal preferences for what you want your labels to look like.

And this is where some of our customers get a bit stuck! So, we’ve put together a quick-fire guide to the different material choices that are available when you order labels from Label Planet to help you find the one for you!

Paper Or Polyester (Or Polyethylene)?
Paper is the most common material used to make labels and is likely to be the sort of label that you are most familiar with. Polyester and polyethylene are synthetic materials with a broader range of properties and characteristics than those offered by paper; the most obvious example is their durability, which allows them to last longer than paper labels and to cope with a much more varied set of conditions and environments than paper labels.

Benefits and Disadvantages of Paper Labels
As a material, paper is much more readily available than polyester and polyethylene, which means that it is much more likely that your chosen paper labels will be available for same day despatch from stock (in either packs of 25 sheets or boxes of 500 sheets). We are also able to offer a larger range of material options (including colours, gloss and matt finishes etc) compared to our range of synthetic labels and they tend to be more flexible when it comes to printer compatibility, with many of our paper labels being suitable for use with laser printers or inkjet printers. Finally, paper labels will always be the cheaper option if you need to work to a strict budget.

Benefits and Disadvantages of Polyester Labels & Polyethylene Labels
As we’ve mentioned, synthetic materials are much more durable than paper labels and have the particular benefit of being waterproof. They can be used in both indoor and outdoor environments, where they may be exposed to or immersed in water and are excellent for use as long lasting or tracking labels, where it is vitally important that the information on a label should remain completely legible and firmly in place for as long as possible, even if the item is moved around or handled a lot.

However, polyester and polyethylene are also more expensive materials than paper and are not available in as wide a range of label sizes as our paper labels; while the most popular sizes are available to order for same day despatch from stock in packs of 25 sheets, some sizes are only available as “made to order” items, which have a despatch estimate of up to five working days.

You also need to bear in mind the fact that the majority of our synthetic materials can ONLY be printed with a laser printer; if you need to use an inkjet printer, you will only be able to choose between Gloss Clear Polyester or Matt White Polyethylene.

Colour Or Transparent?
Using a coloured label or a transparent label is an instant way to make your labels (and items) more eye-catching and creative in appearance. Coloured labels give you a burst of colour as the background to your labels, while transparent labels are ideal if you need to add a label to an item made of a transparent material, that have a decorative surface that you don’t want to cover up, or if you want to create a dramatic “floating text” effect.

Benefits and Disadvantages of Coloured Labels
A quick and easy way to add a decorative touch to any item, coloured labels are the easiest way to make your labels stand out; you can use colour to draw attention to important information, match your company branding, or create a more decorative and creative finish to your items that is simply a bit more fun!

You should keep an eye on the printer compatibility of the coloured labels you are interested in; while our pastel coloured labels and brown Kraft labels can be printed with either an inkjet printer or a laser printer, our metallic labels and fluorescent labels can only be printed with a laser printer (although you can, quite happily, handwrite any of our coloured labels!).

Some of our coloured labels are available in packs of 25 sheets (for same day despatch from stock), while others will only be available as “made to order” items – with a minimum order quantity of 500 sheets. You may also need to think carefully if you want to mix and match sizes and colours; we cannot split a pack or box between two or more different sizes and/or colour BUT we may be able to offer you a better price if you get in touch with us and let us know what sizes and colours you need.

Benefits and Disadvantages of Transparent Labels
Transparent labels are a brilliant way to add a decorative finish to any item; they’re a really creative tool, especially if you need to label transparent items (such as glassware), want to create a “floating text” effect, want to avoid covering up existing designs on a surface, or to avoid the problem of colour matching your label to your items. For example, they’re extremely popular for use as address labels on wedding invitations, where the stationery and envelopes used to make these invitations are often highly decorative in nature (with colours chosen to match a specific theme or colour scheme or perhaps with a decorative textured surface for extra decoration) – and the last thing you want to do is to plaster a label all over your carefully chosen invitations.

Again, you may need to consider any budgetary restrictions that you have; all of our transparent labels are made of polyester, which as we have already mentioned is a more expensive material than paper.

Gloss Or Matt?
Gloss labels have a decorative bright and shiny finish, while matt labels have a “dull” non-shiny finish; generally, people choose the finish that best fits with the overall look or appearance that they are trying to create for their items. While you may choose to match your finishes (e.g. a matt label for a matt surface / a gloss label for a gloss surface), you could also use the opposite finish to help your labels stand out (e.g. a matt label on a gloss surface / a gloss label on a matt surface). We also offer a third finish as a compromise between the two in the form of a Semi-Gloss finish.

There aren’t really any major advantages or disadvantages of choosing one finish over the other because this choice is based much more firmly on your own personal preferences. The gloss materials do tend to be slightly more expensive than matt materials (due to the more specialised coatings that are used to create the high shine of a gloss finish). The paper gloss (for laser printers) and semi-gloss materials have an extra benefit because the coatings used to make these particular materials offer some limited protection against water, which means they can be wiped clean and dry if they are lightly splashed with water (which is why we refer to these products as “Splashproof”) – this makes them an ideal compromise if you need waterproof labels but cannot afford the fully waterproof solution offered by using polyester or polyethylene labels.

You can find complete lists of each “type” of material by using our “List Pages”:
All Label Materials / All Coloured Materials / All Transparent Materials / All Gloss Materials
Use the “View Products” links on these pages to find out more about each material, to see what label sizes are available in each material, or to place an order.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: Helpful Extras Available From The Stikins ® & Trons ® Website

As well as placing an order online, you can also visit our website for a whole heap of helpful extras to help you get the most out of your Stikins ® name labels and Trons ® name transfers.

Stikins ® Information & Trons ® Information
These information pages give you a more detailed insight into what our name label products are like and how they work. If you haven’t tried our name labels before, or if you would like to know what makes our labels different from the rest, these pages are a good place to start.

Instructions For Use
Each set of name labels and name transfers that we despatch will be packed with its own set of Instructions For Use; however, if you would like to have an extra set to hand for “just in case” purposes, you can download a copy from our Instructions For Use page.

Parent Leaflets
These leaflets provide a little bit of information about us, our name labels, and how to order, along with an order form on the reverse side if you would like to make an order by post. While every order will include a parent leaflet, you can always download a copy if yours goes missing or if you would like to give a copy to friends or family – or even if you want to let your child’s school know about our labels (and our fundraising scheme that allows schools to raise money from sales of name labels).

Parent FAQs
Over the years, we’ve found that a few key questions tend to crop up again and again, so we’ve taken these questions (and their answers) and put them together to form our Frequently Asked Questions page; if you have a simple question or query about our products or placing an order with us, you’re more than likely to find the answer on this page.

Print Examples
Most parents are used to the idea of “sew-in” labels, which feature one line of text and are cut to the size of the name or information that has been requested. Our labels, however, are one size only (Stikins ® measure 30mm wide by 15mm high / Trons ® measure 35mm wide by 15mm high) and it is the font size that decreases to allow all of the requested characters to fit onto each label.

To help you visualise the font size that will be created by different amounts of text, we have created a page of print examples with different lengths of text arranged over our 1 Line or 2 Line layouts.

Obviously, if you’re reading this blog post you already know that we run a blog! Each week we add new posts full of hints and tips to help you order and use your name labels as effectively and efficiently as possible!

For the majority of people ordering online, having the chance to read reviews from existing customers is a really important part of the buying process. You can find out what experiences other people have had and make a more informed decision about the items that you order; you can view general reviews about us by clicking on the red “Reviews” buttons on the left and right hand sides of our site OR find product specific reviews by scrolling to the bottom of our Stikins ® and Trons ® product pages.

Contact Us
Finally, you can also use our site to find ALL of our contact information so if you do need to get in touch with us for any reason at all you can do so in a way that is most convenient for you. Whether you want to send us an email, give us a call, or even send us a letter, all of the details you need are on this page.

Label Planet: FAQ – What Are “Self-Adhesive” Labels?

If you’ve visited our website before, you may have noticed that we refer to our labels as “self-adhesive labels”; while this might conjure up brilliant images of labels that stick themselves onto a surface, the truth is a little more mundane.

Technically speaking, our labels are actually known as “Pressure Sensitive Labels” and are named after the type of adhesive that is used to make them. “Pressure Sensitive Adhesives” are tacky (sticky) in “normal” conditions, which means that they only require the pressure of a finger or hand to be applied onto a surface. In other words, they are “self-adhesive” because the adhesive by itself is enough to allow a bond to form (i.e. no other elements are required to create an adhesive bond; “hot-melt” adhesives, for example, must be heated and applied in molten form, with an adhesive bond only forming once the adhesive cools and solidifies).

Our label products cover a range of adhesives and materials to help our customers find the right combination for their individual label application. For example, “pressure sensitive adhesives” can be categorised as either “permanent” or “removable”; permanent adhesives are designed to create a strong bond that will keep a label firmly in place, while removable adhesives are designed to create a temporary adhesive bond that won’t leave behind any adhesive residue when a label is removed. We offer a range of permanent and removable adhesives, including a number of “special” adhesives that have been designed specifically to suit a particular label application, such as our Deep Freeze Adhesive (for labelling items that are stored in freezers) or our Opaque Adhesive (for covering up or blocking out existing print or design work on a surface).

We offer over 100 label sizes across an assortment of 30 different label materials, so our customers have the best possible range of options to choose from to help them find a label that will suit their label application. Supplied on blank A4 sheets, all of our label products are compatible with standard desktop printers, which means our customers can print their labels themselves using their own inkjet or laser printer at home or work.

Our labels are manufactured in the UK using high quality materials and we have a large range of stocked items that are available for same day despatch. All of our prices include VAT and standard delivery, with special delivery options available to request online or by phone. We also supply a whole host of helpful extras to help you choose and print the perfect self-adhesive label, including a free Sample Request service, Templates and Printing Advice, and a Customer Service Team who are happy to help with questions and queries about choosing, ordering, and printing your own labels.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: Schools – Double Your Commission Rate Before Our Fundraising Year Comes To A Close!

If you are signed up to our Fundraising Scheme, now is the perfect time to make sure that you’ve qualified for our top rate of commission – before the current commission year finishes at the end of September.

All schools and PTAs who sign up with us will automatically qualify for our basic rate of commission, which is 15%; to double this to 30% all you need to do is a link to your school or PTA website to our site!

Adding a link to your school or PTA site is a really quick and easy way to let parents know about the all-important fundraising number that they need to quote when they order their name labels AND can help to boost the total commission that you earn – firstly by moving your school onto our higher rate of commission, secondly by making it really easy for parents to navigate to our site, and thirdly by automatically filling in your fundraising number when parents follow the link to place an order (which means the order will still count towards your commission total even if they completely forget to quote a fundraising number!).

Label Planet: FAQ – How Do I Pick The Right Label For My Bottles & Jars?

We have many customers who use our labels on bottles and jars of all shapes and sizes, with contents ranging from homemade beers and condiments, to cosmetics products such as essential oils and creams.

While choosing a label for your bottles and jars might be the last thing on your to-do list, it can become quite a time consuming problem, with customers struggling to work out which label size, material, and adhesive are the best for their particular needs.

This blog post aims to provide a few tips and tricks that we’ve picked up over the years to help you find the perfect bottle label and/or jar label!

Why Is It So Difficult To Find A Suitable Label?
The main hurdle in finding the perfect label for a bottle or jar is the fact that these types of containers tend to be unusual in shape – ranging from simple cylinders to shapes with a myriad of curves and angles. This means that you may end up with a very limited space that is suitable for adding a label to – especially as it is more difficult for labels to adhere properly to a curved surface compared to a flat surface.

You also need to bear in mind the fact that bottles and jars are commonly stored or used in environments that bring with them conditions that some labels may struggle with. For example, most of our bottle labels and jar labels are used as product labels for food, drink, and cosmetics products that will be stored and/or used in the kitchen or bathroom, where the labels may be exposed to water and heat (and may even be exposed to the contents of the bottle or jar they have been used to label).

You will therefore need to choose an appropriate label size for the space available on your containers, choose an adhesive that is strong enough to bond successfully with the surface of your containers (especially if they are curved), and choose a material is suitable for the environment in which your bottles or jars will be stored and/or used.

What Label Size Should I Choose?
We often receive enquiries from customers who need to source bottle labels or jar labels, but the only measurements they provide us with are the width, height, and/or volume of their containers – which are useless measurements when it comes to choosing the right label size.

Instead you need to determine how much of the surface area of your bottles or jars are suitable for labels – you need an area that is as flat and even as possible, so that the adhesive has the best possible chance of creating a secure bond with your containers. From this you can work out which label size(s) would fit into that particular surface area of your bottles or jars.

Some customers decide that they want one label to wrap around their containers but quickly discover that there aren’t many long and thin label sizes to choose from. While it CAN be useful to overlap a label (so that the adhesive can’t peel up from a curved surface), it is difficult to apply these labels accurately and only part of the label can be seen at any one time (which means only part of your design and/or text will be visible unless you turn the container around).

A much better solution is to divide your design and/or text over multiple, smaller labels, which can allow you to be much more creative with your design AND to use the shape of your containers much more effectively. For example, you can use multiple labels to create a “front” and “back” for each container (with the most visually important information, such as your product name, on the “front” label and more detailed information, such as the ingredients and/or instructions for use, on the “back” label) – you may also want to use the lid or cap of your container as a further space to decorate (providing it is large enough for this purpose).

What Material Should I Choose?
When choosing bottle labels and jar labels, you should consider a number of factors to make sure that the material you choose is the right one for your label application.

First, consider any environmental or application factors that may require a more specialised material or adhesive; for example, you should choose Freezer Labels if your containers will be stored in deep freeze conditions, select from our Waterproof Labels if your containers will be used outdoors or indoors where they may be exposed to water, or opt for one of our Removable Labels if you want to be able to remove your labels without damaging your bottles or jars.

Most of our customers want to label bottles and jars containing food and drink products or cosmetics, which means the labels need to survive contact with water (or the contents of the container they have been applied to); the best materials to use for these applications are our Waterproof Labels BUT these materials are more expensive than paper labels – as a budget-friendly option, you may wish to try our Splashproof Labels, which provide limited protection against water so that they can be wiped clean and dry if they are lightly splashed.

Once you have considered the practical requirements of your label application, you can then take into account any personal preference you have for the overall appearance and finish of your bottles and jars (and their labels). For example, customers who want a more decorative appearance will usually choose a gloss finish over a matt finish, or choose a transparent or coloured label over a plain white label.

Request A Sample To Try Before You Buy
It can be very difficult to discern from a website listing whether or not a particular label size (and material) is suitable for your bottles or jars, which is why we highly recommend narrowing down your options to a couple of choices and then requesting a sample of each so you can apply them and see for yourself whether or not they are appropriate for the job in hand.

Simply fill in our online Sample Request Form or contact our Customer Service Team to discuss the samples you would like to try and we’ll put a few samples in the post. You can then double check if the label size works, choose the material or finish that looks just right, and make sure that your labels will survive if they get a bit wet or come into contact with the contents of your containers.

To find the perfect bottle labels and jar labels, we recommend taking a look at our List Of Label Materials page (to view all of the material options available), our List of Label Widths and List of Label Heights pages (to view all of the label size options available), or having a go with our Label Finder (to enter the things you want your labels to be to generate a shortlist of options).

The dust is finally beginning to settle after the Back To School rush and we’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all of our customers who have helped us have our most successful summer ever (so far!). You’ve been busy buying name labels and name transfers all summer long and we’re delighted to see that as well as welcoming new customers, we’ve had plenty of existing customers returning to buy their second (or third or fourth or tenth!) order from us.

We’ve also had some wonderful feedback, reviews, tweets, and comments on our site and via social media, so we’d also like to say a big thank you to everyone who has been in touch with us over the summer.

While we do our best to make sure that our products are as good as they can be, no amount of independent testing is as brilliant or as useful as hearing back from customers who have well and truly put our name labels to the test.

We invite all of our customers to review both our products and our customer service and we read each and every one of your reviews to see if there are ways that we can improve our products and our services to make them even better. Label Planet: It’s A Sticky Business; How To Choose The Right Adhesive For The Job

There are a whole heap of different types of adhesive that you can choose from because there are a whole heap of different types of label applications – each of which offers different challenges to the adhesive strength of a label.

This means that it’s really important to make sure that the adhesive you choose is the right one for your particular label application. Here at Label Planet, our adhesives range from extremely strong permanent adhesives to extremely light removable adhesives, with a few speciality options thrown in for good measure – which means we should have an adhesive to suit all kinds of applications.

Here’s a basic guide to the different adhesives we supply (and what they’re best at):
Mega Tack
This is our strongest permanent adhesive, which is designed to provide extremely strong adhesion to a large range of surfaces. If you’re looking for a label that absolutely HAS to stay on OR if you’re labelling an unusual surface or material that standard adhesives fail to stick to properly (for example, fabric samples or building materials), then this may well be the choice for you!
This adhesive is only available on matt white paper labels and is a made to order item (500 sheet minimum).

High Tack
One step down from Mega Tack, our High Tack adhesive is the most popular choice if you need a strong permanent adhesive but find that standard adhesives aren’t quite up to the job. This adhesive provides great adhesion to a range of surfaces AND meets the German BgVV standard for indirect and short term contact with dry and moist foods.
This adhesive is available on matt white paper labels.

One of our speciality adhesives; this permanent adhesive provides good adhesion on a range of surfaces AND meets the BS5609 part 2 standard for marine immersion, which means it is an ideal choice for label applications that will involve a label being exposed to or immersed in water (for example; labels on outdoor equipment, product labels on cosmetics that will be used in bathrooms etc).
This adhesive is available on both our Matt White Polyester and Matt White Polyethylene labels, which are both highly durable, waterproof labels that are perfect for use as outdoor labels.

Our standard permanent adhesive provides a good level of adhesion to a range of surfaces, which makes it ideal for a range of general purpose label applications.
This adhesive is available on the following label ranges: standard paper, premium paper, gloss paper, gloss photo quality paper, semi-gloss paper, Kraft paper, coloured paper, fluorescent paper, gold & silver paper, gloss polyester, silver polyester, gloss transparent polyester, and matt transparent polyester.

Our standard removable adhesive provides a good level of adhesion to a range of surfaces BUT will also remove cleanly and easily once the labels are no longer needed (without leaving behind any adhesive residue), which makes this adhesive ideal for applications that require temporary labels that can be removed when they are no longer needed or become out of date.
This adhesive is available on the following label ranges: standard paper, coloured paper, gloss transparent polyester, and matt white polyester.

Super Removable
An alternative to our standard removable adhesive; this removable adhesive was specifically designed for use on delicate materials such as paper and glass, which are more easily damaged when a label is removed – this super light adhesive can be applied to even the most delicate of items before removing cleanly and easily when the labels are no longer needed. It is commonly used to create product labels on items that are delicate or are intended to be sold as gifts, as well as being used to identify lots in auction houses.
This adhesive is available on matt white paper labels.

Deep Freeze
Another speciality option, this adhesive is designed for use on items that will be stored and/or used in deep freeze conditions (such as frozen foods or medical/research samples); these labels can be stored in temperatures between -40°C to +60°C and comply with the German BgVV standard for indirect and short term contact with dry and moist foods.
This adhesive is only available on matt white paper labels and should be printed with a laser printer to ensure that the print remains legible even if the label is exposed to condensation.

A speciality option designed to completely block out any existing design or print work on a surface when a label is applied over the top; this adhesive is ideal for labels that are being used to cover up mistakes, update information, or to recycle packaging.
This adhesive is used on our opaque paper labels.

Choosing the right adhesive is a highly important part of sourcing the best labels for your particular label application and – as with anything – testing the labels in the actual conditions you need them to work in is the best way to make absolutely sure that you’ve got the right adhesive for the job. This is why we offer a free sample request service, so you can give our labels (and their adhesives) a trial run before you place an order.

You can find out more about each of the adhesives we supply, along with the products that they are available on, by visiting our List Of Label Adhesives page; simply click on the View Products links to find out more about a label range (including what sizes are available) or to place an order. To request a sample, simply fill in our online Sample Request Form or contact our Customer Service Team to discuss your requirements.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: FAQ – Do I Have To Use All Of My Name Labels At Once Or Can I Store Some For Another Time?

You can use as many of your name labels as you like when they arrive and then store the rest away for future use; simply make sure that you store them somewhere safe and secure to allow them to retain their original quality so they’re ready to go when you need them again!

We recommend keeping your Stikins ® name labels and/or Trons ® name transfers in their original packaging and storing them somewhere that is dry, out of direct sunlight, and somewhere with a steady “room” temperature.

Our Stikins ® are at their best for the first two years, while our Trons ® are fine for the first five years; if you try to apply these products after this time OR don’t store them in appropriate conditions, they may not adhere or transfer properly when you come to use them, which means they may start to peel up or fall off entirely.

Many of our customers prefer to buy a larger pack (or packs) so that they can keep a few labels on hand for “emergencies” or as a steady supply that they can dip into as and when they need to - for example, to label new items of uniform (when previous items have been outgrown) or new equipment (that is required for a new topic or subject).

Buying a larger pack that you can keep somewhere safe for later on is also the most cost effective option; our larger packs have a better cost per label than the smaller packs, so buying more name labels and then using them as and when you need to will help you make your money go that extra bit further, compared to buying smaller packs every time you run out.

Visit our Frequently Asked Questions page for more answers to customer questions or take a look through our Blog posts for more tips and advice. Alternatively, visit our Stikins ® product page or our Trons ® product page to place an order today!

Label Planet: FAQ – I Can’t See The Outlines On My Word Template, What Should I Do?

If you’re using a Word template to design your labels, you may find yourself in the unfortunate position of opening your Word template only to find that you can’t really see anything that resembles a template.

For example, you may have tried to open one of the built in Avery templates in Word, only to find that you are presented with a blank page OR you may have downloaded one of our Word templates and opened it to find that you’ve got a screen that is filled with a Label Planet product code and nothing else.

Don’t Panic!

If this has happened to you, it’s a simple thing to fix! All you need to do is to turn on gridlines and you’ll be able to see the outlines of your labels, so you can start adding your design to your template.

Word templates are usually made by creating a table whereby the cells in the table represent the position of the labels on a sheet (along with any gaps between or around the labels); this means that you need to turn on TABLE GRIDLINES to be able to see the template layout (confusingly, Word also has PAGE GRIDLINES, which will add gridlines to the background of your template document but WON’T help you see the outline of the table). The way to do this will depend on the version of Word that you are using; simply locate your version of Word from the options below and follow the guidelines provided:

Word 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007
  1. Left click once somewhere inside the table you want to format (aiming for the centre of the page is a good bet!)
This will cause new tabs to appear in the ribbon at the top of the page.
  1. Beneath “Table Tools”, click on the “Layout” tab, find the group called “Table” (usually on the left hand side), and click “View Gridlines”.
Word 2003
  1. Click on the “Table Menu” tab at the top of the page, and click “Show Gridlines”.
Word for Mac 2016
  1. Click once somewhere inside the table you want to format.
  2. Select the “Layout” tab (next to the “Table Design” tab), and click “View Gridlines”.
Word for Mac 2011
  1. Click once somewhere inside the table you want to format.
  2. Select the “Table Layout” tab, find the group called “Settings”, and click “Gridlines”.
Once you have enabled gridlines, you simply need to add your design to the spaces provided; remember that we strongly advise that you test print your template onto blank paper BEFORE you put your labels in your printer so that you can verify that the alignment is correct (and make any necessary adjustments if it isn’t).

NB: if you have downloaded a Word template from our website but find that you are unable to make any changes to your template at all, it is likely that your document has been temporarily locked; there should be a yellow banner across the top of the page, along with a button that says “Enable Editing” – simply click this button and the template will be unlocked so that you can start editing!

To download a template from our website, simply visit our Template Section; you can also find out if your Label Planet labels have a compatible Avery template code by visiting our Label Planet Products With Avery Codes page, or you can take a look through our Help Section and Blog posts to find more helpful tips and advice for designing and printing your own labels.

Label Planet: Schools – We’ve Got Labels For ALL Your #BackToSchool Needs!

The arrival of a new school year heralds the start of all sorts of labelling projects for teachers and members of staff alike; whether you need labels for providing feedback on classwork and homework, setting targets for pupils to encourage progress, creating lesson plans to guide your classes through the term ahead, providing pastoral care throughout the year, or simply getting all of your administrative files, folders, and paperwork sorted out.

At Label Planet, we supply over 1000 schools across the country with a variety of label sizes and colours to help them get the new school year organised and under control! We’ve even put together a dedicated school section to help you find the perfect label size for a variety of purposes, including:

Target Setting & Assessment Labels
  • Create pupil progress labels to provide pupils with targets at the beginning of a new year, term, or topic, which they can stick into their exercise books and use to keep track of their progress.
  • Use coloured labels to indicate if work has undergone teacher, peer, or self-assessment, or create a colour coded system to categorise how well pupils are doing with a particular topic or subject.
Marking & Feedback Labels
  • Print the school’s marking conventions onto labels that pupils can stick into their books and refer to throughout the year.
  • Create feedback labels to quickly and easily add comments to work (especially those that you find yourself repeating over and over again); you could pre-print comments or create labels that include blank spaces for tailored feedback (for example: “two stars & a wish”, “what worked well”, and “even better if” labels).
  • Make merit and reward badges as a simple, cheerful way to provide feedback on how a pupil is doing.
  • Our LP18/63 label size is suitable for use with the Effective Marking Scheme and many schools buy their labels from us year after year; this size is kept in stock in large volumes, so the labels are ready for same day despatch when schools need to order (or re-order!).
Lesson Planning Labels
  • Print out lesson objectives, success criteria, and WALT / WILF statements, which are particularly popular for use in literacy and numeracy lessons.
  • Create vocabulary or keyword lists for a particular term or topic – pupils can stick these lists into their books so they have accurate spellings and/or definitions to refer to throughout the term or topic. Labels are also a brilliant way to add important diagrams or illustrations to exercise books (without having to resort to using messy glue sticks!).
Pastoral Care Labels
  • Labels can be used for a variety of applications related to pastoral care; for example, labels can be used to organise and securely store pupil records, to colour code files to denote the year a pupil is in, to indicate pupils with special status or requirements, or to identify pupils with medical conditions or allergies.
  • Labels can also be used to track and monitor behaviour, whether they are used to record incidents of bad behaviour, to indicate that a particular pupil has been placed under special supervision or on probation, or as a means of reporting behaviour back to parents (for example, by adding stickers to planners that parents are required to review and/or sign each week).
  • Create a school-wide merit system to reward exceptional behaviour, improvement, or achievement; merit labels can be used to track progress and behaviour throughout the year before being added up at the end of term or year to determine which pupils should receive awards or certificates to reward them for their successes.
School Administration Labels
  • We’ve got label sizes to suit all kinds of administration applications but one of the most popular uses for our labels is to label books, including exercise books, text books, library books, record books, and any other types of books you’ve got!
  • Our coloured labels are a quick and easy way to colour code files and folders, paperwork and records into whatever categories you need to use – which makes it quicker and easier to find a particular file or group of files from the hundreds (and thousands) that schools tend to accumulate.
Ordering School Labels From Label Planet
You can choose to buy packs of 25 sheets (for small projects) or you can take advantage of our price break system and order your labels in bulk – saving you plenty of time and money. The majority of our school orders are despatched on the same or next working day (orders of 500+ sheets of made to order items can take up to 5 working days for despatch but paper products are usually despatched much sooner); we aim to have as many of the most popular label sizes used by our school customers in stock, even when they need to order particularly large volumes in preparation for a new term or school year.

Schools can order online, over the phone, by email, or by fax; you can choose to make payment with your order, request a pro-forma invoice against which you (or your Finance Department) can make payment, OR if you are a Local Education Authority School, you can request a 30 Day School Invoice.

If you wish to order by fax or email, please send us the details of your order on an official purchase order form OR on the school letterhead along with the signature of the individual responsible for making payment.

To choose the right labels for your school label application(s) you can use our List of All Labels page to see what materials are available, visit our Labels Listed By Width and Labels Listed By Height pages to see what sizes are available, try out our brand new Label Finder, contact our Customer Service Team for advice, or simply have a browse through our website.

Once you have chosen your labels, you can order online, get in touch with our Customer Service Team by phone, or simply send us an email or fax with the details of the labels you would like to order. Stikins ® & Trons ®: Need Last Minute Name Labels OR A Quick & Easy Top-Up? Order Stikins ® For Name Labels That Arrive & Apply In A Flash!

For many, this weekend means the final days of the summer holidays have arrived, leaving only a few hours left to get all those Back To School tasks done and dusted.

Whether you’ve completely forgotten to order name labels for your children’s belongings or you’ve already ordered but keep finding more things to label, we’ve got you covered!

Every order placed with us before 3pm (Monday to Friday) is made and despatched on the same day (with orders placed after 3pm or over the weekend being despatched on the next working day). All orders are sent out via Royal Mail’s first class service as standard – with around 93% of these items arriving on the next (working) day.

If you’re in a bit of a panic, you can also choose to give us a call and upgrade your order to a guaranteed next working day delivery service (shipping fee: £5.75).

Our Stikins ® name labels can be used to safely and securely label all kinds of school uniform and equipment (including shoes and bags, P.E. kit and equipment, water bottles and lunch boxes, stationery and books, and so on) – these multipurpose labels simply peel off their backing sheet and stick onto your children’s belongings, which means you can get dozens of items labelled in minutes!

Apply Stikins ® onto the wash-care label of clothing & fabric items or directly onto personal items; in shoes, they should be applied onto the side wall or beneath the tongue to avoid the print being worn away.

We recommend washing brand new items first (especially school uniform) and leaving your labels for 24 hours before you wash them for the first time to allow the adhesive to completely and fully set.

To place an order, simply visit our Stikins ® name labels product page or give our Customer Service Team a call; remember, if you are in a rush and you’re ordering online you should ALWAYS take a moment to confirm that the details of your order are correct (including the spelling, spacing, and inclusion of upper/lower case letters in the text you have requested).

Label Planet: Finders Keepers – Use Our Label Finder To Find Labels That You’ll Definitely Want To Keep!

Finding the right label for the job in hand can be a difficult task – especially with so many choices on offer. There are different sizes and shapes, materials and adhesives, which can make it very confusing to try to find the one that’s “just right” for you.

Here at Label Planet, we supply over 3000 different label products across a range of over 100 sizes and over 30 different material options – which means we SHOULD have a label to suit almost every application, if only you can find out which is “the one”!

This is where our brand new Label Finder comes in handy; simply enter your requirements and our Label Finder will create a list of labels that are suitable based on the information you have entered. You can then refine your search using the categories provided, request a sample to give a few of the possible options a try, or simply go ahead and place an order!

For example, you can use any of the following requirements as a starting point:
  • Label Use
While we couldn’t possibly list ALL of the label applications that our customers might need to find labels for, we have done our best to come up with a comprehensive list of label applications as a basic starting point. We have then selected the label products that we believe are the most suitable for these applications as a guide for customers who want some extra assistance in choosing the right label – although, you are, of course, perfectly free to ignore our suggestions and choose an alternative that you think is better!
  • Printer Type
Some of our label materials can only be printed with an inkjet printer OR a laser printer (while the rest can be printed with either); if you use your printer as one of the filters in your label search, the Finder will automatically remove any label products that your printer won’t actually be able to print.
  • Shape
If you know you want a particular shape, use this filter to view all of the label sizes and material combinations available for that shape.
  • Colour
This filter will allow you to view only the label sizes that are available in the colour you want to use.
  • Number Per Sheet
This option is particularly useful if you’ve got a sheet of labels from somewhere but you’ve either forgotten where they came from OR you want to see if we have a compatible product – and you don’t have a code or specific information to help narrow down your search.
  • Avery Template Code
If you’ve already got Avery labels, or you want to use an existing Avery template, you can use this filter to see all of the Label Planet products (if any) that are compatible with the Avery code you have in mind – you can then use your Avery template to print onto your Label Planet labels, without having to redesign your template.
  • Material
To find out what label sizes and material options are available for a particular label material, select from the four options in this filter. This option is ideal if you know that you only want to look at paper labels or if you know that you need a long-lasting, durable label (in which case a polyester or polyethylene option would be best).
  • Adhesive
If you know that you definitely want a permanent adhesive (so your labels won’t come off), a removable adhesive (for temporary labels that won’t do any damage when they are removed), or an adhesive that is suitable for a more unusual environment (e.g. deep freeze or outdoor conditions), you can select the appropriate type of adhesive to see what label sizes and material options are available.
  • Finish
You may have a firm idea of what you want your labels to look like; to view products that have a bright, shiny finish select “Gloss” from this filter, select “Matt” to view only those products that have a plain, non-shiny finish, or choose “Semi-Gloss” for a compromise between the two.
  • Waterproof
For label applications where you need your labels to be able to survive exposure to or immersion in water, you can choose to add “waterproof” as a requirement so that the Finder will only show you products that are suitable for use in these conditions; for example, you may need labels for use outdoors or product labels for items that will be stored and/or used in the bathroom or kitchen.
  • Width
Use this option if you know that your labels need to be a specific width; selecting this option will show you all of the label products we supply that have the exact width that you need.
  • Height
Likewise, if you need your labels to be a particular height, the Finder can instantly narrow down your options to show only the label products that have the specific height you need.
If the exact width or height that you want to use is not available, you can also use these two options to see if there is a suitable alternative that will work just as well for your label application.
  • Label Code
If you want to look up a particular product or you want to re-order a product that you’ve bought from us in the past, you can select the specific Label Planet code from the list to instantly bring up a direct link to the product page for that label product.
  • Label Planet Size Code
You can use this option if you have a specific Label Planet label size in mind (whether you already buy them from us or you know that a particular size is the one you need) and you want to see what material options are available for that size.
  • Label Planet Material Code
This option is useful if you already buy labels from us in a particular material but want to know what other label sizes are available in that material.
To get started with your search for the perfect Label Planet label head on over to our Label Finder page; for more information about any of our label ranges, take a look at our List Of All Materials Page, which will direct you to more detailed information about the materials and adhesive options listed in the Label Finder.
