Label Planet: Try Adding A Touch Of Texture To Make Your Labels Truly Terrific

Labels are a brilliant way to add a bit of decoration to all kinds of items and there are plenty of different options when it comes to getting the best possible finish from your labels. You can play around with different colours to add a burst of brightness to your items, pick a glossy finish to add a touch of shine, use the tricks of transparency to create a visually stunning addition to your items, or simply go all out with your design work.

Another way to add an extra bit of decoration is to choose a label that has a textured finish to bring a subtle touch of decoration to your items that will both look and feel that extra bit special. Here at Label Planet, the majority of our labels have a smooth, untextured finish, but we thought it was high time we celebrated the subtle sensation of textured (and semi-textured) labels in the form of our Kraft Labels & Metallic Labels.

KRAFT LABELS: these labels are made with a brown Kraft paper that has a ribbed finish, which creates a wonderfully subtle touch of both pattern and texture. These labels are ideal for all kinds of items, but are especially well suited to items that are intended for special events, whether you’re producing homemade or handcrafted gift products, invitations or notes for special events and occasions, or simply looking to bring that perfect finishing touch to your items.

GOLD & SILVER METALLIC LABELS: these labels are made with gold or silver paper that has a semi-gloss, semi-textured finish, which creates a brilliantly decorative appearance. While they don’t have the same degree of physical texture that our Kraft labels offer, they nevertheless have a lovely shimmer appearance that's just gorgeous, whether you’re creating a festive finish for your seasonal goods, adding a touch of luxury to your packaging, marketing, promotional materials, or correspondence, or you simply want to add an extra special label to your items.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: To Use One Line Or Two Lines. That Is The Question – But Why Do We Ask It?

When you order name labels from Label Planet, we give you the option of selecting text on one line or on two lines – and a few customers have asked us why this is.

The simple answer is that it’s all down to size. Name labels are supposed to be discrete when you don’t need them and legible when you do – in other words, they should be small enough that you don’t have a label plastered across your belongings BUT the font should be large enough to make it quick and simple to identify the owner of an item.

Our system is set up to automatically select the largest possible font size for the NUMBER OF CHARACTERS you request in your order.

Therefore, if you require very few characters (e.g. a surname only or a full name where both the first name and the surname are very short), you will actually get a bigger font size by selecting one line rather than two.

When ordering labels from our site the two line option is the default selection; we find that this setting provides the best possible font size for the majority of our customers (who tend to enter a first name or surname on the top line and then a surname or phone number on the bottom line).

We recommend choosing the one line option ONLY if you are requesting very little text on your labels. If you are including full names, double barrelled names, and/or any contact information (e.g. a phone number), then we would strongly recommend splitting the information over the two lines.

If you are not sure which option is best for you, you can always take a look at our Print Examples page, which indicates the font size created by a variety of text options, or simply get in touch and we can advise on the best way to layout your text.

Label Planet: Christmas Is Only A Month (& A Day) Away! (Have You Left Time To Get Your Labels Purchased, Posted, Printed & Put On Your Stuff?)

Yes, it’s true! Christmas is now only a month and a day away!

While you’ve probably got more fun things to plan (decorating the tree, gifts you want to give (and receive), time with family and friends, a good old knees up for the Christmas do (or an excuse to get out of it), or even a trip away), we’d like to remind our customers that labels tend to take more time than you think.

Most people are guilty of leaving labels to the last minute – and we can understand why. Perhaps you’ve had months of product planning and marketing meetings to get through, or you’ve been busy planning your Christmas card list, presents, and party invites down to the last detail – in either case, you might have been so busy planning the details and design of your actual items, that getting hold of the labels to put on said items has become something of an afterthought – a bridge, as it were, to cross when you get to it.

However, we’d point out that there are a number of steps involved in getting stuff labelled – most of which take significantly longer at Christmas – which can mean that it will take significantly longer to cross the “Bridge Of Labelling Stuff” than you might think:
DESPATCH: only stocked items are available for same day despatch – made to order items have to be put on a waiting list for manufacture and in the run up to Christmas that list gets longer and longer, which means that it can be at least five working days before your items are despatched (and not “up to”).
DELIVERY (PART 1): while orders of 250+ sheets are sent on a next working day carrier service, smaller orders are sent via Royal Mail's first class service, which is subject to delays as the Christmas period gets closer and more items are being processed.
DESIGN: if you haven’t already got a template ready and raring to go, you’ll need to put aside some time to get your labels designed. If you’re planning a very simple label then this might be a straightforward task, but if you’re looking to put together a special seasonal design to add that special finishing touch to your items, it might just take longer than you think.
PRINT: if you’re printing a few labels (for a personal Christmas card list or for gift tags and decorations) then this isn’t as much of an issue, but if you’re a company trying to print thousands of seasonal labels for your Christmas stock and promotional materials then you need to account for the actual time that it will take to print your labels.
LABELLING: you also need to account for the time that you’ll need to actually get all of those labels stuck on – especially if presentation is an important factor and they all need to be perfectly positioned on your items.
DELIVERY (PART 2): whether this is putting your Christmas cards in the post before the last posting date or making sure that your customers receive their products in plenty of time, you also need to make sure that you have time to get your labelled items to where they need to get to – especially if you’re sending items to stores or to customers directly.

As you can see, there are at least six stages involved – and that’s if you’re based in one location. Some of our customers will also need to despatch their labels to a printers to be printed and to a warehouse for labelling, before their labelled items are sent off to a warehouse for storage, to a store for display and sale, or simply directly to their customers.

In any case, you need to build in enough time for everything to get done, so here are our key things to think about:
- Made to order items take longer than usual to be despatched (our “up to five working days” despatch estimate is now more likely to be “five working days” (if not more) for despatch).
- Royal Mail’s first class service is likely to encounter delays as Christmas gets nearer, so we strongly recommend upgrading small orders to a next working day delivery option (available online and by phone).
- Don’t assume that designing a template and printing your labels is going to be a straightforward and easy task – whether you prefer Murphy’s Law, Sod’s Law, or Finagle’s Law, we all know how the old saying goes: anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, and always at the worst possible moment.
- If you know that your labelled items are likely to be gift items that customers will want to receive in plenty of time for Christmas, it is better to order your labels now, so your stock is ready and raring to go for when those Christmas orders are flowing in.
- If you are concerned that your labels won’t arrive in time, get in touch so we can give you the most current despatch/delivery estimates and advise of the best possible shipping options to make sure your order arrives in plenty of time.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: Show Me The (Answers To Frequently Asked Questions About) Money!

Yup, it’s another FAQ special and once more we’re delving into all your questions about money – or rather, your questions about money relating specifically to our name labels…

Where can I find out what your name labels cost?
The best place to look is on our website. Currently our prices are as follows:
N30 / SN30 / T35: £6.00
N60 / SN60 / T70: £8.50
N90 / SN90 / T105: £10.50
N120 / SN120 / T140: £12.50

We also supply re-order forms with each order and send parent leaflets to our commission partners that do include pricing information but the prices (and products!) listed may be out of date – so it’s always best to double check on our website.

What do your prices include?
All of our prices include VAT and standard UK delivery.
Standard UK delivery is via Royal Mail’s first class service (please note that this is NOT a guaranteed next day delivery service).

Do I have to pay extra for shipping?
Not if you’re in the UK and you’re happy with our standard delivery option.

If you need to receive your labels urgently, you can choose to upgrade to a guaranteed next working day delivery service for £5.75 (please note that this service does require a signature upon delivery). If you want to upgrade your order then you will need to place your order by phone.

While the majority of our name labels are despatched to UK addresses, we can also ship to a limited number of countries outside of the UK; if you wish to nominate a non-UK address for delivery, you will be charged £1.50 per item for postage.

Can I get a discount?
It depends. From time to time we do run discounts and special offers. Details of these offers will be posted on Twitter, Facebook, and our blog, and we will usually email existing customers to let them know that the discount or offer is available (where customers have opted to receive these emails from us).

We are also happy to offer a 10% discount to nursing and residential care homes who order name labels directly from us on behalf of their residents. Care homes can read more about our products on our website or simply get in touch for more information or to place an order.

What if I need to buy multiple packs? Do I get a discount then?
Possibly! We are currently running a special offer on orders for multiple packs; if you purchase four or more packs in one order you will automatically receive a 10% discount.

Can I save money by splitting a pack between two or more names?
Yes and no. While we cannot split a pack between different names, we are happy for customers to find ways to share a pack between two or more family members.
Common examples include using a family surname only, entering one full name on the top line and one full name on the bottom line and cutting the labels in two, entering the first name/initial followed by the surname followed by the second name/initial and cutting off one of the names/initials, or simply entering both first names on the top line and sharing the labels.

Which pack size is the most cost effective?
Our larger pack sizes offer the best value for money and both our Stikins ® and our Trons ® can be stored away, so you can use however many labels you need at the current time and then save the rest for future use.
We advise that you keep your labels in their original packaging and store them in a dry place at room temperature out of direct sunlight; our Stikins ® are at their best for the first two years and our Trons ® for the first five years.

What payment methods are available?
It depends on how you place your order:
Online Orders: credit/debit card or PayPal account
Phone Orders: credit/debit card (not American Express)
Post Orders: cheque
Phone/Email Orders: request a proforma invoice and make payment by credit/debit card, cheque, or BACS transfer.

Last year I got a discount/offer code/combination pack – why can’t I see it on your website anymore?
Our discounts and offers have expiry dates, which means that once the discount or offer has expired it simply isn’t available anymore. When we promote our discounts and offers we will try to ensure that the expiry date is clearly marked and we will usually post reminders on our blog and social media sites to make sure that customers are aware that an offer or discount is coming to a close.

If you have any other questions, you can take a look through our Frequently Asked Questions page or get in touch with our customer service team.

Label Planet: Leave Them Blank Or Break Out Your Calligraphy Kit - Ways To Use Labels Without A Printer…

Our website is chockful of advice and tips for printing labels BUT we know that labels can also come in handy even if you never let them near a printer. Whether you leave them blank or get creative with calligraphy, there are loads of ways to use labels without needing a printer at all.

Get Personal
Handwritten labels provide the perfect personal touch, whether you’re writing to friends, sending gifts for special occasions, or creating a personal connection with customers. Simply knowing that someone has taken the time to sit down and write out an address or a friendly message makes an item all the more special to receive. Of course, there’s also the benefit that if you don’t particularly like to use computers then handwriting your labels is a simpler and easier way to go.

Handwritten labels do take longer than printed ones, so it’s probably best to only commit to handwriting labels if you know you’ve got the time (or a team of helpers!) to get them done. All of our labels can be handwritten; if you select one of our non-paper products, please note that you may need to use a more permanent writing implement (such as a permanent marker pen) to make sure that your print stays perfectly in place.

Get Colour Coding
If you need to get things organised, coloured labels are the perfect way to get your stuff colour coded. We have a range of colours including six pastel colours (permanent or removable adhesive), five fluorescents, gold and silver, brown Kraft, and, of course, standard white (permanent or removable adhesive).

Colour coding comes in handy in all sorts of situations, whether you’re organising and keeping track of stock at work, organising and keeping track of your family at home, organising and keeping track of students in a school or employees in a company, organising and keeping track of stuff that needs to be moved from one premises or home to another, or organising and keeping track of schedules and deadlines.

You can leave your labels blank or add notes to help keep track of what is what, where, when, why, who, and (possibly even) how. Some of our coloured labels are available with a permanent adhesive or a removable adhesive, so you should be able to find the perfect label, whether you need to make sure that something is labelled permanently or you’re after a temporary label that you can remove when you no longer need it.

Get Creative With Kid’s Activities
Labels can come in handy for all sorts of arts and crafts projects, whether you’re looking to engage your children in an educational project or simply looking for a way to keep them distracted when it’s cold and rainy outside.

Our labels can be stuck onto homework, reward charts, exercise books, clothing, or project and activity materials, and they can be written on with just about any kind of writing implement, from pens and pencils to crayons and glitter sticks. In fact, the only limit to their uses is your own (and your children’s) imagination!

Get Packing
Whether you’re wrapping up presents for friends and family or looking for a simple, decorative way to seal your product packaging, our labels are an excellent finishing touch. You can opt for one of our colourful labels to add a fun, bright finishing touch or select from one of our transparent labels for a professional, subtle addition to your items.

Get Organised
Our removable labels are ideal for adding reminders and temporary notes to your diary, planner, calendar, the office noticeboard, or the fridge at home (or at work!). You can scribble a quick note, leave it up for yourself or someone else to see, and then remove it when the job is done, without doing any damage or leaving any adhesive residue behind.

Gloss clear polyester labels (GCP) can be used as transparent white boards; simply use a whiteboard marker to write or draw on one of these labels, then wipe it clean and start all over again.

Finally, permanent labels are a great away to get your cupboards, drawers, boxes, or whatever particular filing system you prefer under control. At work you can get to grips with your various in-trays and out-trays, get your desk organised to within an inch of its life, and, of course, get your paper work under control. Labels are also ideal for use at home, especially if you’ve got a family or a busy home office to get organised. Labels are also a great way to organise your kitchen, especially if someone you live with has got food allergies or medication to keep track of, or you’ve simply got cupboard after cupboard full of cutlery, crockery, and assorted utensils whose purpose you may or may not have forgotten.

Get Studying
Removable labels are perfect study companions; you can mark important passages or pages in books, add notes to revision guides and source materials, or create study cards to revise for exams. You can stick these notes into books, onto revision notes, or even around the house to help you learn key points throughout the day. Once an exam is over or a piece of coursework has been submitted, your labels can be removed without doing any damage.

Get Greeted & Seated
Our labels can be used as simple name badges and name labels for both personal and professional occasions. You can make name badges for parties where guests can decorate their own badges, design badges to match the theme of your event, create personalised badges for each guest, add place cards to your tables to make sure everyone has a place to sit (and knows where to go!), or label up gift or party bags to ensure that there’ll be no tears and tantrums when it’s time to go home. They can also be used to create name badges and table place or seating cards for meetings and events held by businesses and organisations, whether it’s a company gathering, fundraising event, networking event, a conference, or even just the Christmas do!

Stikins ® & Trons ®: Mixing Up Your Ps & Qs (An FAQ Special About Fonts, Characters, & Words)

If you’ve got a question about fonts, characters, and/or words, this is the blog post for you; we’ve rounded up a selection of the most frequently asked questions we receive about name labels and the text that goes on them.

Can I choose a font?
No. All of our labels are printed in one standard font.
You can get a rough idea of what this font looks like on our Printed Examples page.

What colour font do you use?
All of our products are printed in a bold black font.
We find that this offers the best legibility against the white (or silver) background of our products.

What size font do you use?
It depends on how many characters you request.
Our system counts up the number of characters you have requested on each line and automatically selects the largest font size that will allow all of the characters on both lines to fit onto each label.

If you try to enter too many characters, a warning will appear onscreen and you will not be able to add your item to the basket. However, our system will allow quite a large number of characters to be included, so if the font size is particularly important to you, we would advise being selective with the amount of text you add to your labels.

Name labels are supposed to be discrete when they aren’t needed, which means the font size will be small as a necessity. If you want a large font size, we recommend adding only the most essential information onto your labels (and in a shortened format, where possible).

To create the best possible font size, we also recommend using the “Text on two lines” setting, which is set as the default when you begin your order. For the majority of orders, this produces a better font size than that created when you enter ALL of your text onto one line only. If you are entering a single word (for example, a surname only) or a very short full name, then you can choose the “Text on one line” setting to produce a larger font.

What characters can I request on my labels?
We can print all of the standard alphanumerical characters (A-Z and 0-9), along with standard punctuation marks, and some accented characters.

Can I include accented characters in my order?
Yes and no. Our system can print SOME accented characters (within the standard European range of characters) as follows:

À Á Â Ä Ã Å Æ à á â ä â å æ È É Ê Ë è é ê ë Í Î Ï ì í î ï Ô Ö Õ ò ó ô ö õ Ù Ú Û Ü ù ú û ü Ç ç Ñ ñ Ý Ÿ ý ÿ Ø ø Ð ð ß ƒ

Can I add pictures / emoticons / emojis?
No. Our system can only print standard characters, which means that we are unable to print any kind of image onto our products at this time. Of course, if you’re feeling a bit nostalgic or creative, you can always use standard punctuation marks to add a fun twist to your labels ^__^

What information should I put on my name labels?
It’s generally a matter of personal preference. The majority of our customers will order name labels with just a name printed on each one; most of our labels are used to label school uniform and equipment, which means that a name is usually enough to ensure that items can be returned to their rightful owner by the school.

However, we also find that customers often choose to add an extra detail to go along with the name, with the most common choices being:
CONTACT INFORMATION: usually a phone number, although some customers have requested an address or email address. While phone numbers fit quite neatly onto our name labels, we would advise that customers avoid adding an address or email address unless it is a shortened version due to the small font size produced by including so many characters.

A MESSAGE: for example, “Property Of” or “Please Return To”; we find that this is commonly used by groups (such as schools, activity groups, or departments in businesses and organisations) to keep track of equipment that is shared or loaned out, although some parents like to include a friendly message on their children’s items too!

ALLERGY OR MEDICAL INFORMATION: name labels are an easy way to add a medical alert to clothing or to containers holding food or medical supplies. In the event of an emergency, people who step in to help can quickly and easily find out that a person has a particular condition and can adjust the help that they provide accordingly.

SCHOOL OR CLASS NAME: some parents choose to include their child’s school or class name. A class name can help make it easier for the school to return items, while adding a school name can make it easier for items to be returned if they are lost elsewhere. Where name labels are purchased by businesses or organisations, they may choose to include a department to help ensure that equipment is returned to the correct place within a larger complex.

We would advise that you include TWO pieces of information (e.g. a name and a piece of contact information) AT MOST to keep the font size legible.

Can I include a full name / nicknames / surname only?
The way you format a name is down to personal preference. While most people will include a first name and a surname only, some like to include middle names as well, others will add a nickname (which is especially useful if someone is known only by a nickname), and some choose to simply use a surname (which is a great way to share labels between family members but should be avoided if you know that your child shares their surname with another child in their class).

Can I include the names of two or more people on my labels?
Yes! While we cannot split a pack between different names (every label within a pack must be printed with the same text), we are more than happy for parents to get creative with their text to allow them to buy one pack that they can use for multiple family members. For example, you might choose to:
- Use a surname only (or “Family Surname”) and share labels between the whole family.
- Enter one name on one line, a second name on the second line, and cut the labels in half.
- Enter one name/initial followed by the surname followed by the second name/initial and then cut off one of the names/initials as required.
- Enter both first names on the top line (e.g. Name And Name, Name & Name, Name Or Name) and the surname on the bottom line.

For more answers to Frequently Asked Questions, please visit our FAQs page. If you have any questions or queries relating to choosing the right text for your name label order, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to advise you further.

Label Planet: Wall Displays – Tips For Choosing Labels For Galleries & Exhibitions

We have a number of customers who purchase labels for use as title cards or information boards in galleries and exhibitions to provide details about each item on display. Some of these customers require labels that they can simply (and easily) apply directly onto walls before removing each label when the exhibition or event comes to a close.

While it might seem a simple enough task to find a label suitable for this purpose, you must take into careful consideration the properties of the wall’s surface – and the potential problems that these might cause.

When a customer requires a removable label that won’t do any damage, we recommend choosing one of our label products with a removable adhesive; these adhesives are designed to provide a bond that will hold the label in place while it is needed before removing cleanly from the surface without leaving behind any adhesive residue or doing any damage to the surface. Using a permanent adhesive will usually result in some adhesive residue being left behind and can do minor damage to the surface when a label is removed – which rules out permanent adhesives for direct applications onto walls in galleries & exhibitions.

However, some walls have surfaces that make it more difficult for an adhesive bond to form; for example, some paints, coatings, and finishes on walls will create a porous surface that adhesives may struggle to bond with, while walls made from natural materials (e.g. exposed brickwork or wood) have uneven, rough surfaces that can prove challenging for removable adhesives that are designed to create light, temporary bonds. Usually, when a customer needs a label that is capable of bonding with an uneven or unusual surface, we recommend stronger permanent adhesives but these would damage the walls and so are unsuitable for this type of application.

So what can you do if you need to create labels for an exhibition or event?
  • Use placeholders:
Add a small placeholder next to each display space and apply your labels to the placeholder rather than the walls. This way you can choose a material for your placeholder that provides a flat, smooth surface that removable labels can both adhere to and be removed from easily. Alternatively, you could use a permanent adhesive that might do some damage upon removal but isn’t as much of an issue because the damage is done to the (replaceable) placeholder and not the wall itself.
  • Request a sample first:
Request a sample of our removable labels so you can test for yourself if our labels will work on the surface you need to label. This will also allow you to see if there are alternative places/surfaces where you could apply your labels; for example, while the wall behind your display may prove to be an unsuitable surface, you might find that your items are being put into glass or plastic cases or frames whereby the smooth surface of the case or frame allows the adhesive to bond firmly enough to hold each label in place during your exhibition or event, before removing cleanly from the surface once the label is no longer needed.
You can find a full list of our removable adhesive products by visiting our Removable Adhesives page.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: Keep Track of School Property & Equipment With Stikins ® Name Labels

While most of our name labels are bought by parents to help keep track of their children’s belongings, they can also come in handy for schools who have their own property and equipment to keep track of.

Whether it’s spare uniform and P.E. kits or specialist equipment for use by a specific department in practical demonstrations, schools will have items that they want to keep track of – and that they will want to avoid replacing.

Schools can use name labels to indicate that certain items are the property of the school (especially those that might be loaned out to students for short periods of time) or even a particular department (to help prevent mix ups between similar items). They can also be used as asset labels, to assign identical pieces of equipment (such as laptops) with a unique number to help keep track of those items as they move around the school.

Stikins ® name labels are a simple multipurpose name label that can be applied to all kinds of items, including clothing (where they should be applied to the wash care label) and equipment ranging from laptops to sports equipment, technology tools to research materials, and all manner of essential items in between.

You can find out more about our Stikins ® on our Stikins ® information page, or simply visit our “Buy Stikins ®” page to place an order. Schools can also get in touch with us to request a proforma invoice or a school invoice (which gives 30 days for payment).

We operate a commission scheme, which will allow schools to earn up to 30% commission on sales of name labels – whether those are orders from parents or from the school itself. To find out more about our commission scheme, simply visit the “Schools” section of our website.

Standard UK delivery is included in the prices you see on our website; we do charge an additional shipping charge if you upgrade to a special delivery option but this is only the amount that Royal Mail or the carrier company charges us.

We would also remind customers (once again) that Royal Mail’s first class service is NOT a guaranteed next day delivery service. While 93% of these items are delivered the next (working) day, the rest can take a day or two extra (particularly if you live in remote areas or, indeed, London) and – in our experience – if you absolutely have to have your labels in time for a deadline, it is more than likely that (this time round) you will fall into that 7%. If you choose to “risk it”, please remember that we allow five working days for Royal Mail to deliver such items before declaring them to be lost.

Label Planet: Remember, Remember (It’s) The 5th November (& That Means Christmas Is On The Way)

While you might be more concerned about your plans for Bonfire Night (Have you got enough food and drink? What will you wear? Where did you put your woolliest hat/gloves/scarf/wellington boots? Are the pets going to be okay? Where did you put the fireworks/matches/sparklers/emergency bucket of water or – if you’re particularly well organised/adventurous –fire extinguisher?), we hope you’ve got a spare minute or two to think about Christmas(!).

The dark nights have drawn in, Halloween has come and gone, and thoughts are inevitably turning to Christmas – which means that the rush to get everything done on time is also underway.

As the days go by, despatch and delivery estimates will only get longer and longer, which is why we’d like to encourage our customers to get their labels bought nice and early. Many people consider labelling their items to be the last job to do (apart from actually delivering them to where they need to go, of course!), which means that many will leave it to the last moment to order the labels they need – only to find that it’s going to take longer than they thought for the labels to be despatched and delivered (and that’s before you take into account the time you need to get your labels designed, printed, and applied – not to mention any time you need to then send your items on to a store, warehouse, customer, or even the recipient of an extra special gift).

Whether you’re an individual who’s got some creative Christmas projects in mind or a business or organisation with a whole heap of Christmas stock and promotional materials to get sorted, it’s always best to get things done early at this time of the year.

So, if you know that you’re going to need labels in plenty of time for Christmas (especially if you need a lot of labels, made to order items, or simply need to make sure your items have time to get to where they need to go), ordering now will go a long way to making sure that this Christmas is a peaceful one.

If you’re at all concerned about how long it could take for the items you require to be despatched/delivered, please get in touch with us for the most up to date estimates and to discuss the shipping options available.

[And, of course, we hope that – once you’ve got your Christmas label planning sorted or, at the very least, underway – you have a wonderfully spectacular Bonfire Night with plenty of fireworks, food, and fabulous bonfires aflame!]

Stikins ® & Trons ®: Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November (Is The Perfect Time To Label All Your Hats, Scarves, Gloves, and Coats!)

Yes, it’s that time of year once more, when we leave our lovely warm homes to go and stand outside beside a burning bonfire, sparklers at the ready, as fireworks dance and burst across the night sky. Of course, before all of that can take place there will be the inevitable traditional rummage in the back of the wardrobe to dig out an assortment of scarves and gloves, coats and hats, wellington boots and thick winter socks, and perhaps even a set of thermals (or two!).

With such a miscellany of extras to cart along wherever you go to help keep you warm during the winter months, it is all too easy to put something down and forget to pick it up again – which means it’s all too easy for a favourite snuggly scarf or the perfect pair of gloves to go missing, especially if you’re out and about in busy places, whether it’s a hectic day at the office, a seasonal scrum in the shops, or a chaotic Christmas in the classroom.

So, how can you make sure that your winter warmers stay safe all season long?

Name labels are a quick and easy way to display a name (and perhaps a contact number) to help prevent your family’s belongings getting lost this winter.

For fabric items, you can choose either our iron-on name transfers (Trons ®) or our stick on name labels (Stikins ®). Our transfers bond and fuse with materials to create a completely permanent name label on all kinds of fabric items, while our name labels can be applied to the wash care label of any garment AND onto any personal items that you also want to keep safe through the hustle and bustle of Christmastime and beyond.

Label Planet: Visit Our Help & Advice Pages For Tips, Templates, & (Samples To) Test!

While we strive to make it as easy as possible to buy the labels you need, we also like to go the extra mile and offer as much help as possible when it comes to printing those labels (unless, of course, you’re after blank labels and/or you’ve got some creative calligraphy in mind!).

We’ve created a section on our website devoted to help and advice on designing and printing labels, which we’ve rather straightforwardly named “Help & Advice”. In this section, you’ll find all sorts of helpful extras including:

- Request Label Samples: if you’re not sure which label is right for the application you have in mind, we recommend requesting a sample and testing the labels first (in the exact conditions you need them for) so you’re certain they’re suitable before you buy.

- Dos and Don'ts: EIGHT basic tips that prevent the most common problems that occur when printing labels.

- Designing & Printing Labels: our basic guide to designing and printing labels, including advice on setting up a template, design tips, printing advice, and some troubleshooting assistance.

- FAQs: our answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we receive from our customers, including questions about Printing, Delivery, Choosing The Right Label, Label Types, and Payment and Refunds.

- Printing Circles Info: a basic guide to printing circular (and oval) labels, which generally prove to be a bit trickier than the more straightforward rectangular shape, along with more information about the round (and oval) label sizes that we supply.

- Printing Mirrored Text and Images: information about how to create “Mirrored” labels in Word; if you want to apply your labels to one side of a transparent surface but need them to be readable from the OTHER side, you will need to ensure that your text and/or images are printed in reverse (or “mirrored”).

- Smartstamp Info: information about the Royal Mail’s Smartstamp Service, which allows individuals and business to print their own stamps directly onto their mail items.

- Glossary of Label Terms: terms commonly used in the Label Industry along with a (hopefully) helpful definition for each term.

- Cross-index of Avery Codes / List of Avery Codes: whether you’ve got an Avery product and want to know if we supply a compatible product OR you’re trying to find a compatible Avery template code for the Label Planet product you’ve bought, these pages provide an easy way to cross reference between Label Planet product codes and Avery product/template codes.

- Material Specification Sheets: a collection of material specification sheets for the label product ranges supplied by Label Planet; these pages contain more detailed information about our labels and the materials that are used to make our products.

- Label Printing Templates: we provide templates in Word and PDF formats for all of our label sizes, so if you haven’t got a template to hand or you can’t find the template you need (and you aren’t quite confident enough to set up your own), you can download the template you need from our website – completely free of charge!

We’re currently setting up brand new Information Pages for all of the label sizes we supply; each Information Page will contain information about that particular label size, advice and tips about working with that label size, templates for that label size, and a complete list of the material options available for that label size. These pages are an ongoing project, and we’ll add new pages as they are ready; in the meantime you can continue to download templates from our Label Templates Page.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: Schools – Tips To Boost Your Commission Total For The New Commission Year!

With a new commission year now underway, you might be wondering if there’s anything you can do to make sure that the commission cheque you receive next year is even better than the one you got this year.

Our commission scheme is designed to be as simple as possible, so schools and groups don’t have to spend a lot of time and money on this one particular fundraising project. In fact, our scheme is a year-round fundraising opportunity that will run along in the background quite happily, with minimal input from our affiliate partners.

However, as the old saying goes, you get back what you put in, and there are a few things you can do to give your fundraising efforts a bit of a boost. This year, we put together a review of our commission scheme and the funds it has raised for our existing partner schools and groups; from this research we created a “Fundraising Guide” (to help schools and groups understand how our scheme works) along with a “Commission Booster Plan” (full of our top tips to get the very best results).

So here are 7 Small Things That Make A Huge Difference:
  1. Put someone in charge! Having an individual who will take some time to be proactive and promote the scheme – even if it’s just for a couple of months – can make a big difference to the response from parents.
  1. Request a Label Planet Poster! We provide these posters free of charge; they’re the perfect size for adding to notice boards around school or your group’s headquarters to act as a reminder to parents about the scheme and how it works.
  1. Add a link to your website! A link makes it even easier for parents to order name labels AND generate commission. You can include information about how it all works, explain the benefits of using name labels (for example, tackling that mountain of lost property building up in the office), and the link can also automatically fill in your code so you get commission even if a parent forgets to add the code themselves.
  1. Request leaflets to send home to parents! Leaflets are a quick and easy way to let parents know about the fundraising scheme and the all-important code they need to use when they order. We also recommend sending a short letter out with the leaflets to explain the benefits of name labels and to further encourage parents to make a purchase; we have included a few sample letters on our website to help get you started.
  1. Rally support and feedback! Getting staff or members involved is an easy way to boost the success of your fundraising; simply making sure that everyone is aware of the scheme and how it works is a good start. You can distribute copies of our Fundraising Guide or even take advantage of our PTA PowerPoint Presentation (free to download from our website) to explain how it all works.
  1. Request free samples! We will provide five printed samples of our Stikins ® name labels for every pupil in your school (or new intake if you have taken up this offer before) so that parents can see for themselves what our products are like and how they work.
  1. Get organised! Make a list of the things you want to do to help boost your fundraising efforts, including who needs to do what and by when, to make sure that you don’t forget or simply run out of time to get things done.
While the majority of parents will be interested in name labels at the end of summer/start of the new school year, we find that periodic reminders will help keep your commission total bubbling along, particularly if you send out reminders around the start and/or end of term time (including half term) when parents might be considering buying name labels for new uniform or equipment that their children will need for the new term (or, indeed, replacing those items that have managed to go astray in the meantime).

Stikins ® & Trons ®: Schools – Your Commission Cheques Are On Their Way!

Yes! Another commission year has come to a close, which means that commission cheques are on their way!

We’ve been busy adding up all of the commission that has been earned by our affiliate partners for this commission year and the cheques will be going out in the post tonight, via Royal Mail’s first class service, so you should be seeing your cheque very soon. We’ve had a fantastic response from schools over the last twelve months and we hope they’ll all be happy with their results.

This year’s commission is awarded on orders placed between 1st October 2014 and 30th September 2015 where a school code was quoted.

We’ve also given our schools the opportunity to boost their funds over the last twelve months by increasing our higher rate of commission from 25% to 30%. If you’ve added a link to your website this year (or if you already had a link in place) you’ll receive the 30% rate – and the higher rate will be backdated even if your link is a vey recent addition. All other schools will receive commission at our basic rate of 15%.

Your current commission rate will be quoted on your commission cheque letter; if you are currently earning 15% commission and want to boost this to the 30% rate then please visit our website for information on how to add a link and to register your link by filling in our “Commission Claim” form.
