Stikins ® & Trons ®: FAQ – What Size Will The Letters Be On My Name Labels?


All of our name labels measure either 30mm wide by 15mm high (White Stikins ® & Silver Stikins ®) or 35mm wide by 15mm high (Trons ®); we find that this size is large enough to display information in a clear and legible font size when someone wants to read the label, but is small and discrete enough that it won’t draw attention when it isn’t in use.

This means that the font size each set of labels is printed with is determined by the number of characters you request. Our system counts the number of characters on each line and then automatically selects the largest possible font size that will allow all of those characters to fit onto each label.

Our order pages are set to “Name on two lines” by default, although you can opt to change this to “Name on one line” if you wish. We find that the two line layout provides the best possible fit and font size for the majority of our orders; however, the one line layout works well if you are entering a first name or surname only (in other words, the total number of characters you require is quite low).

We’ve put together a few tips to help you decide how much text you want to include and the layout that will work best. We would also advise taking a look at our Stikins Print Examples page, which has a number of example text and layout options to help you get an idea of what each option will look like when printed.

  • Only select the one line option if you have a small amount of text to enter. If you have longer names (especially double barrelled first and/or surnames), contact information, or other text to include on your labels, we would recommend using the default two lines option.
  • If you’re including contact information, we recommend adding the name on one line and the contact information on the other. We also recommend using one piece of contact information only; most choose to include a phone number, which will fit neatly onto our name labels. We also advise using two lines if you are adding other additional information such as medical or allergy information or a message such as “Please Return To” or “Property Of”.
  • Avoid including an email address as your contact information – unless it is quite a short address. The number of characters required for an email address will usually result in a very small font size being selected.

Label Planet: FAQ – Do You Do Those Labels For Products And Packaging?


Here at Label Planet, we specialise in A4 sheets of labels that customers can print themselves using their own standard desktop printers. Many of our customers are business owners who want labels they can use on their products and packaging. While some of our label products suit this task down to the ground, some customers get in touch for something quite different. So here’s a guide to the Product and Packaging Labels that we do and a few that we do not.

Address/Shipping Labels: many of our customers use our labels as address/shipping labels; the most popular products are our standard matt white paper labels with a permanent adhesive, although some will opt for one of our polyester or polyethylene products if they need a label that is a bit more durable, particularly if it is to be used for adding tracking information that needs to remain with an item, even if it is moved around a lot or left in storage for long periods of time.

For customers who want a more decorative appearance, we have a range of coloured labels and gloss labels, which are perfect for creating a professional and creative finish for all kinds of correspondence and packages.

Waterproof Product/Packaging Labels: some items require a waterproof label because they may be exposed to water at some point – during storage and/or use. We have range of waterproof polyester and polyethylene labels, which offer a variety of finishes and adhesives to ensure that there’s a waterproof label suitable for pretty much every label application. Customers can choose between gloss and matt finishes, white or transparent labels, and permanent or removable adhesives. This makes these labels extremely popular for use on food and drink products, cosmetic products, or on products that require outdoor use and/or storage.

Transparent Product/Packaging Labels: some customers want product/packaging labels that will match a transparent item (such as glassware), that won’t cover up their existing design work, or that are as unobtrusive as possible, in which case one of our transparent products will do the job quite nicely – customers can choose from gloss or matt finishes, and a permanent or a removable adhesive.

Gloss Product/Packaging Labels: for a more decorative appearance than a standard matt finish, we offer a range of gloss labels, including the option to choose a full gloss finish or a semi-gloss finish. These labels give a high quality shine and create a professional and decorative finish on any product or packaging.

Coloured Product/Packaging Labels: to get even more creative with the look of your products and/or packaging we offer a range of coloured labels, including five fluorescents, six pastel shades, metallic gold and silver, and ribbed Kraft paper for a subtle touch of pattern and texture.

Removable Product/Packaging Labels: if you sell products that are often given as gifts or that are made using delicate materials (such as paper or glass), we have a range of labels made with removable adhesives that won't leave behind adhesive residue or damage items when a label is removed.

Tamper Evident Product/Packaging Labels: these labels can improve the security of high value goods by providing visual evidence if a product or its packaging are tampered with. We have Void Labels that will leave the message "VOID" on the label and the item, while our Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels will fragment into tiny pieces, which makes them extremely difficult, if not impossible, to remove in their entirety.

Some customers are looking for labels that are designed for food and drink products; many of these products are manufactured in certain ways and with certain materials in order to meet industry standards for food safety etc. While some of our products (such as our Freezer Labels) do comply with the German BgVV standard for indirect food contact and short term contact with dry and moist foods, we may not be able to provide labels that meet the specific industry requirements that a customer needs; we would advise these customers to contact specialist label manufacturers/suppliers who supply products that are developed specifically for the food and drink industry.

Similarly, if you are looking for labels that are intended for use in a very specific label application and especially for those that must meet strict industry regulations, we would also suggest that you may be best off searching for a specialist supplier who is able to supply products that are manufactured according to industry guidelines.

Integrated labels are labels that are “integrated” into (in other words, are part of) a sheet of paper (or other material). On a sheet of integrated labels, some of the sheet is made up of one or more labels, while the rest is normal paper. These labels are used to combine the printing of different documentation into one sheet and are most commonly used in the delivery of products or services; one sheet can be used to print any combination of address/shipping labels, an invoice or receipt, a return address label, a picking sheet or slip, or company information.

While we do not carry any products that are manufactured specifically as integrated labels, we do have a product that can be used as a substitute, particularly for people who sell products via Amazon, Ebay, and Play.com. These market platforms allow sellers to use their software to print address/shipping labels and receipts for the orders they receive; the software prints both pieces of documentation onto one sheet, with the address/shipping label taking up the top or bottom third of an A4 sheet and the rest of the sheet being used for the receipt. Our product LP3/210 is fully compatible with this software and means that the top or bottom label can be printed as an address label and applied to the package being despatched, while the top or bottom two labels form the receipt documentation. This means that there’s no need to purchase specific integrated label products because this standard label product does the job just as well.

Piggyback labels are made up of two labels, where one sits on top of (or piggybacks) the other label. The top label can be removed and used as a separate label in its own right (for example, as a built in return address label for customers to use), be discarded once it has been removed to reveal a message or code, or can be used as a flap so that information can be printed onto both the top and bottom labels, saving space on the product container or packaging.

We do not sell piggyback label products, so you will need to search for a label manufacturer or supplier who are able to provide this specific type of label.

We get a variety of queries from customers who have all sorts of questions about our name labels.

With this in mind, we have created two brand new pages – one for each of our products – to give our customers more detailed information about our products: Stikins ® name labels and Trons ® name transfers.

Our name labels have been designed to be as useful and durable as possible, which means that we have taken care to choose materials and manufacturing processes that will make our labels as efficient as possible. Stikins ® and Trons ® were developed with both busy parents and active children in mind, so we’ve tried to ensure that they are both quick and simple to apply AND capable of surviving the stresses of everyday life along with repeat trips through washing machines and tumble driers, or even dishwashers and microwaves.

Label Planet: FAQ – How Will My Labels Arrive?


Some of our customers get in touch with us because they’re worried about how their labels will be packaged and how they will be delivered. So here’s a quick list to let you know how different quantities of orders will be packaged and despatched.

25 or 50 sheets
Packaging: Hard backed C4 envelopes, which will fit through a standard letter box.
Delivery: Royal Mail’s First Class service, Signed For service, or Guaranteed Next Working Day service.
(SF & ND services require a signature, ND delivery must be selected by the customer as an upgraded service)

75 – 200 sheets
Packaging: 75-100 sheet orders are packed in small boxes, which will fit through a standard letter box. Orders over 100 sheets are packed in medium boxes, which may not fit through a letter box.
Delivery: Royal Mail’s First Class service, Signed For service, or Guaranteed Next Working Day service.
(SF & ND services require a signature, ND delivery must be selected by the customer as an upgraded service)

200 – 500 sheets
Packaging: 200-250 sheet orders are packed in medium boxes, which may not fit through a letter box. Orders over 250 sheets are packed in large boxes, which will not fit through a letter box.
Delivery: Orders below 250 sheets are despatched via Royal Mail’s Signed For service or Guaranteed Next Working Day service (SF & ND services require a signature, ND delivery must be selected by the customer as an upgraded service), while orders of more than 250 sheets will be despatched via a next day carrier service (requires a signature).

Orders of 500+ sheets
Packaging: Packed into large boxes, which will not fit through a letter box.
Delivery: Next working day carrier service (requires a signature).

Stikins ® & Trons ®: FAQ Special – Despatch & Delivery Queries


It’s time for another FAQ Special and this week we’re all about despatch and delivery.

Will my labels go through the letterbox?
We often get queries from customers who are concerned that, if they are out when their order arrives, their items will not fit through the letterbox.

However, ALL of our name label orders are despatched in envelopes that will fit safely through a standard letterbox. The majority of orders are sent out in C5 size envelopes (the equivalent of A5), while larger orders containing multiple sets will be despatched in C4 size envelopes (the equivalent of A4).

How quickly will you despatch my labels?
As name labels are a “seasonal” product, we tailor our production levels to ensure that our orders are despatched efficiently all year round according to seasonal demand.

Currently, our production is running every day with all orders placed before 3pm (Mon-Fri) being made and despatched same day.

How long will it take for my labels to arrive?
Royal Mail state that they aim to deliver all first class post on the next working day; around 93% of first class post does arrive the next day, with the remainder taking a day or two extra (we find that this tends to happen most often for items that are being delivered to more distant UK locations and within the London area).

We can offer a guaranteed next day delivery option, which you can read about below. 

We also ship to a limited number of countries outside of the UK; standard delivery is by Royal Mail’s International Standard service. Items sent on this service should arrive in Western Europe in 3-5 working days and in the Rest of the World in 5-7 working days.

What shipping options do I have if I need my labels urgently?
You can choose to upgrade your order to a guaranteed next day delivery option, which will ensure that your order is delivered the next working day by 1pm. To upgrade, you will need to either place your order by phone or place your order online and call us to upgrade the shipping – this option is £5.75 and will require a signature upon delivery. 

How much is delivery?
Standard UK delivery is included in the prices listed on our website.

However, you will need to pay extra for delivery if you want your labels to be sent to a non-UK address (delivery charge of £1.50 per item) or if you want to upgrade your order to a guaranteed next delivery (UK only, delivery charge of £5.75).

Label Planet: Printing Tips - Getting The Best Possible Print On Metallic Polyester Labels


At Label Planet, we have TWO products that are made using metallic silver polyester; Silver Matt Metallic Polyester Labels and Silver Void Polyester Labels.

Both of these labels are made with the same face material (a metallic silver polyester with a matt finish), which has been coated with a thin layer of aluminium (metallised).

This means that these labels do need to be treated slightly differently than other laser labels when putting them through a printer. Standard laser printers use a combination of heat and pressure to apply toner to the surface of materials. With metallised materials, it is possible that some of the heat within the printer will be reflected off the surface of the labels, which can cause problems with the quality of print that can be achieved.

These labels don’t require as much heat to print correctly as other laser labels do and so we would advise printing these labels using your laser printer’s standard or “Normal” print settings and NOT using the specific “labels” or “heavy paper” settings (which apply more heat than standard settings).

SILVER VOID POLYESTER LABELS: designed specifically for use as Tamper Evident Security labels, these labels are designed to improve the security of high value goods by providing visual evidence (in the form of the word “VOID”) that a label has been removed and an item tampered with.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: FAQ – What Characters Can I Have Printed On My Name Labels?


Most of our customers will only need to use the standard characters A-Z and 0-9, but some of our customers want to order labels with accented characters.

The good news is we CAN print accented characters – although the bad news is we cannot print ALL accented characters.

Which Accented Characters Can I Request & How Do I Enter Them?
We’ve put together a table (see below) to show all of the accented characters that our system CAN print. The way you enter these characters depends on the device you are using when you place your order.

On desktop computers and laptops, you will need to use ASCII codes or keyboard shortcuts to enter accented characters.
PCs: hold down the “Alt” key and type in the relevant ASCII code on the Numeric Keypad (NB: you must have “Num Lock” on for this to work). Laptops without a numeric keypad will usually offer an alternative way to enter ASCII codes OR you can simply use copy and paste.
Macs: hold down the key for the letter you want to enter until a set of alternative characters appears on the screen. To enter one of these characters, either click on the one you want or type the number that appears beneath that character.

Most tablets and smartphones feature two options for entering accented characters:
  1. Alternative Keyboards: you can select a different input keyboard that features accented characters.
  2. Alternative Characters: tap and hold down on the character you want to enter; this will cause your device to display alternatives for you to choose from.

What do I do if I need an accented character that isn’t in the table above?
Unfortunately, at this time, we simply cannot print these characters. You could choose to have your name printed without accents OR you could write these accents on yourself, with a permanent marker or laundry pen.

Can I add emoticons/icons/images?
We can only print alphanumeric characters (letters and numbers), standard punctuation marks, and the accented characters in the table above – so if you enter something that isn’t one of those characters or symbols, we will not be able to print it.

However, if you’re feeling a bit creative, you can always try creating your own images and patterns using the characters that are available to you ^_^

Label Planet: The Trick of Transparency (With Your Labels)


We supply a whole range of transparent labels to help make sure our customers will be able to find one that’s just right for their particular application. These labels provide our customers with a choice of finishes, adhesives, and printer compatibility, along with the best possible level of transparency.

Some of our customers are confused as to what the difference is between “Clear Labels” and “Transparent Labels”. While other companies may use these terms differently, at Label Planet we use them interchangeably – in other words, transparent labels are clear labels (and vice versa). We simply include both because some customers will only use one of these terms when searching for the labels they need.

Another term that is often confused with “transparent” is “translucent” – however, these two words are NOT interchangeable.

“Transparent” refers to a property of materials that allow light to pass through the material (otherwise known as transmitting light) without any significant scattering of the light in the process – the result of which is that objects beyond the transparent item can be viewed quite clearly.

Materials that do not transmit light are described as “opaque” and they form the opposite end of a scale with transparent materials. In between transparent materials that transmit light with little to no scattering and opaque materials that transmit no light at all are those materials that do transmit light but with some degree of scattering during the process. These materials are known as “translucent” materials; unlike transparent materials, these materials have a frosted appearance and objects beyond cannot be clearly distinguished.

Transparent labels cannot be considered to be 100% transparent (sometimes described as “glass clear”); this is due to the use of an adhesive layer as part of the label. While transparent labels will be made with a face material and an adhesive that are both transparent, the manufacturing and application processes will both introduce tiny air bubbles into or beneath the label, which will prevent it from having a truly 100% transparent appearance.

To create the best possible visual result with your transparent labels we would recommend you try the following:
- Ensure that the surface you are labelling is clean and dry.
- Take care peeling off each label and avoid touching the adhesive surface as much as you possibly can.
- Apply one end of the label first and then use your thumb to smooth the remainder of the label down left to right (or right to left), taking care to ensure that if any air bubbles appear they are worked out as you go.

While transparent labels can be used for all sorts of label applications, here’s a few special applications where a transparent label truly excels:
- Window Stickers: whether you’re a business looking to use your window space effectively or you simply want to create a fun set of windows stickers for decoration purposes, transparent labels are a brilliant choice to get you started.
- Colour Match Problems: you might have spent a lot of time and money choosing the perfect pattern or texture for important items (such as invitations to a special event or luxury product packaging) and you don’t want to plaster a label over the top. Transparent labels mean you can use a label that will add your text/images to your item while allowing the original pattern or texture to show through.
- Product Labels On Transparent Items: if you’re looking to label transparent items such as glassware, you might want a label that won’t detract from the overall appearance of the item, which makes a transparent label the perfect pick.
- “Invisible” Product Labels: of course, you might just be looking for a product label that is as unobtrusive as possible on your product and/or packaging.
- Decorative “Floating” Text: as there isn’t really a visible background to a transparent label, these labels create the effect of “floating” text, which is a brilliant finishing touch to any design work on marketing materials, products, or packaging.
- Waterproof Labels: these labels are made with polyester, which means they are also waterproof (when printed with a laser printer); this makes these labels extremely popular for use on products that will be stored or used in places where they may be exposed to water, such as food and drink products in the kitchen or cosmetic products in the bathroom.
- Transparent “Whiteboard”: our GCP products also act like a transparent whiteboard; you can write on these labels with a whiteboard marker and wipe it away to start again.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: FAQ – Can I Split A Pack Between Different Names?


We are often contacted by customers who want to know if they are able to split a pack between two or more names. Some of them only want a few labels for each child, while others are trying to make every penny count and don’t want to buy a pack for each child.

Unfortunately, our system is unable to print different text onto the labels included within a pack, which means that every single label in an individual pack must be printed with the same information.

However, we are more than happy for customers to get a bit creative with their order to find a workaround that will allow them to share a pack between two or more children. In fact, we even have a few suggestions to help you get the most out of your name labels!

How To Order: Select “Name on one line” and enter your surname.
Font Size: This option usually uses fewer characters, which means that your name will print in a bigger, bolder font size.
Alternative Suggestions:
Add “Family” as well as your surname (e.g. Surname Family) so you can share your name labels between the whole family.
Use the “Name on two lines” option to enter your surname on the top line and add contact information, such as a phone number, on the bottom line.
Use the “Name on two lines” option to enter your surname on the bottom line, and use the space bar to enter a blank space on the top line, so you can use a permanent marker or laundry pen to write in a first name on the top line.
If your children have names that begin with the same letter, you could enter the initial and the surname, which can help prevent mix ups if your child shares their surname with another child in their class.

How To Order: Enter one full name on the top line and one full name on the bottom line OR enter both first names on the top line and the surname twice on the bottom line. You can then cut the labels in two to create separate name labels for each child.
Font Size: This option will usually result in a smaller font size – we would recommend avoiding this option if you need to include particularly long names (especially double-barrelled surnames and/or first names). If you choose to put both first names on the top line and the surname twice on the bottom line, please remember that our system will centralise the text you enter before it is printed (in other words, the alignment you see onscreen when you place your order is NOT the alignment that will be used to print your labels). You may wish to add a few spaces between the names to help balance the spacing but this does reduce the size of font that will be used.
Alternative Suggestions:
If you need to enter relatively short first names and surnames, you could select “Name on one line”, enter all of the text on one line, and then cut off one end as needed. For example: “Name 1 Surname Name 2”. Alternatively, you could use initials to save space and increase the font size: “Initial 1 Surname Initial 2”.

How To Order: Enter the first names on the top line and the surname on the bottom line.
Font Size: The font size depends on the number of first names you are adding and the number of letters in the first names and your surname. For example, this option works best if you have two relatively short first names, as the number of letters on the top line will balance out with the number of letters in the surname. If you want to include more than two names, you may want to divide the first names over the two lines.
Alternative Suggestions:
Enter the first names as “Name 1 & Name 2” or “Name 1 or Name 2”.

Label Planet: FAQ – Do You Do Pantone Matching?


Occasionally, we get requests for coloured labels that will match a specific pantone reference number.

Some customers have brand colours that they want to replicate on their packaging or want to use a specific set of colours for a marketing campaign, while others might be creating labels for a special event that has a colour theme – including personal events such as weddings, birthdays, or christenings.

While we do offer a range of coloured labels, unfortunately, we are unable to supply labels of a specific pantone.

If you do need labels that are made to a specific pantone reference, you will usually have to have those labels made for you as a bespoke item. However, you may find that one of our colours will do the job and we are more than happy to send out a sample as a general example of the colours we offer.

Of course, while copy and paste is one of the most useful tricks of the digital age, it (like everything else) has a darker side – we’ve all experienced the problems of finding out that you’ve copied the wrong bit of information and you can’t find the original source, you’ve copied a perfectly laid out page and the minute you hit paste it rearranges itself into an entangled mess that only vaguely resembles the original, or you’ve copied something only to find out that it comes with all sorts of extra bits that you don’t want and now have to delete one by one.

When designing templates, copy and paste is one of the most useful tools you can use – it can save heaps of time and effort in an instant. However, it can also cause hours and hours of nightmarish problems.

So: here is the Label Planet guide to the good, the bad, & the ugly sides of copy and paste…

From the tone of the first part of this blog, you might well be wondering “well, if copy and paste is so bad, why should I use it at all?” – but it’s definitely a tool that we wouldn’t be without.

Unless you’re creating a set of labels that are entirely different from one another, most templates are designed to create one set of labels that are (pretty much) all the same. Some may want to have slightly different details on each label (e.g. product numbers or addresses), but the bulk of the design will be the same.

This is where copy and paste excels. Instead of setting up each label individually, you simply need to design one of your labels (we suggest the top left one) and get it set up exactly as you want it, before using copy and paste to fill in the rest of your template. The best part is, it is possible to select all of the elements you have set up in your design AND the formatting you have applied to them, so that when you paste you know ALL of the labels in your template have been set up in exactly the same way. This improves the alignment you achieve when you print and makes it much easier to spot any problems that you might need to amend to get the perfect print position.

Unfortunately, while copy and paste has a lot of uses (and therefore benefits), sometimes it simply can’t do everything for you. The copy function will only copy exactly what you select and the paste function will follow a set of rules that might not produce a result that is exactly what you were hoping for – so if you don’t take a little extra care when using copy and paste you can run into problems.

Sometimes, copy and paste might not turn out to be quite the shortcut that you imagined, although (when used properly) it can still provide a great deal of time saving help. One example is labels with gaps between them; some templates will incorporate these gaps into the spaces that represent the labels on the sheet – in which case you can usually copy and paste your design into all of the label spaces in one go BUT you will have to take care with your design to ensure that you have accounted for the gaps between the labels. Other templates may include blank spaces, columns, and/or rows to account for the gaps between labels – in these cases, you will often have to avoid pasting into the blank spaces because this may alter the layout of the template (when software automatically adjusts a template as content is added to spaces where it shouldn’t really be) or cause issues when printing. This means that you may need to paste into individual spaces, rows, or columns one at a time.

In our experience, the worst problems caused by using copy and paste tend to happen when the software you are using tries to be helpful by trying to predict what you might be trying to do and then doing it for you.

A common issue is caused by the software detecting that you are adding new content and then adjusting the layout of your template to accommodate the items you paste. Obviously, this will usually mean that your template ends up misaligned and will cause all sorts of problems when you print. Some software will allow you to “lock” the layout of your template, but it is usually best not to assume that this is the case. If the content you are adding is larger than the size of your labels, you may wish to edit it before you paste it into your template (so that it is the right size to start with) or simply take care to double check that your template doesn’t adjust when you paste (and adjust the layout back if it does).

Something else to watch out for (particularly in Word), is when software automatically adds in blank columns or rows to replace those that you have just filled with content. This usually occurs when you paste into multiple rows/columns in one go, and you will need to delete the new rows/columns that have been generated to avoid problems when you print.

Similarly, some software has more than one type of “paste” and, if you use the wrong one, the software may make adjustments to your content that you really don’t want it to. These paste options will give you different options for how much of the original content is retained and the formatting and style options that are applied to the content when you paste.

For example, Word offers three options: Keep Source Formatting, which pastes your original content exactly as it is; Match Destination Formatting, which alters most of the formatting and style options of your original content to match the destination it is being pasted to (with the exception of any emphasis in the original text, such as bold/italicised/underlined text); and Keep Text Only, which abandons non-text elements (e.g. images and tables) and retains only the text, which is then pasted with format and style settings that match those of the destination.

  • Take care when selecting what you want to copy
    Select the ENTIRE area that you want to copy and not just the individual elements within it. In Word, for example, if you hover very carefully over the left hand edge of a cell, the cursor will turn into a small, solid black arrow pointing diagonally up and right; if you left click once, this will select the ENTIRE cell for you, including the elements you have added to that cell to create your design AND all of the formatting options you have selected. You can tell when an entire cell has been selected because both the elements within the cell AND the background behind and around the elements will be highlighted in a pale grey.
  • Choose the best paste option for what you are trying to achieve
    Think about what you want to do with the content you are trying to copy (e.g. do you need an exact copy or do you just need the basic elements that you can go on to edit?) and make sure you choose the best paste option for your needs.
  • Check if you are able to paste into multiple columns/rows at once BEFORE you copy and paste
    This depends on the options provided by your software AND the way in which the template has been set up. Usually, you should be able to select multiple places that you want to paste to but some software may not give you this option (in which case you will need to paste your design into the labels in your template one by one). You should also be aware of how a template has been set up to accommodate for any gaps between labels. If your template includes blank rows/columns to represent gaps between your labels, you should avoid pasting into these spaces because this will usually cause your template to adjust itself or will cause issues when you try to print.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: FAQ – Do I Have To Use All Of My Name Labels Straight Away?


Not at all.

Our name labels have a shelf life of two years (Stikins ® name labels) or five years (Trons ® name transfers); this means that the quality of the product is at its best during this time and the labels will give the same results when applied as they would when they were first purchased – providing you take care to store them appropriately.

We advise that you keep your name labels in their original packaging and that you store them in a dry place, out of direct sunlight, and preferably at room temperature to ensure that they remain at their best during storage.

Plus, you’ll also get more value for your money by purchasing one of our bigger packs (N120, SN120, or T140), using however many labels you need at the present time, and then storing the rest of them away safely for another time.

So, if you’re buying labels for this year’s list of school uniform and equipment, you can get everything labelled up and then save the rest of your labels for future use – whether it’s more equipment for school, next year’s list of essential items, things that get bought for a future trip or holiday, or for those emergency “just in case” situations.

Stikins ® & Trons ®: Stikins ® Success - Back To School Name Labels Sent Same Day All Summer Long!


We’re delighted to announce that this has been our most successful summer to date, with all of our name labels being made and despatched same day according to our production level targets.

Despite receiving a record amount of name label orders this year, we’ve managed to make, pack, and despatch all of our Stikins ® name labels and Trons ® name transfers swiftly and speedily to help parents and families across the country beat the back to school rush and ensure that they get to spend the last few days of summer doing things that are simply way more fun than labelling up school gear for the new school year. 

Whether they were ordered back in June and July by parents who wanted to get organised early or were last minute casualties of the back to school rush, our name labels have been winding their way across the country to start the job of labelling hundreds and thousands of personal items and school uniform and equipment as children start back (or indeed start) at school.

Label Planet: FAQ Special - I Need A Label That Is…


Here at Label Planet we have chosen to specialise in labels on A4 sheets for use with standard desktop laser and inkjet printers (or for handwriting!). While this means that we are able to supply all kinds of labels in all kinds of colours, materials, and adhesives, it also means that there are a whole heap of other types of labels that we don’t do.

However, we know that it can be difficult and frustrating to find labels that are exactly what you need, so here’s an FAQ special about some of the label requests that we receive (and the advice we give for each).

Bespoke Label Shapes & Sizes
All of the label shapes and sizes we supply are listed on our website (you can view them all on our website, listed here by shape, here by height, and here by width). If the size you want isn’t listed here then you have two options:
  • Find the closest alternative that will work for you. Most of our customers have some leeway in the measurements that they are searching for and it may be that one of our standard sizes will do the job just as well.
  • Have bespoke labels made for you. There are many different companies producing labels to bespoke requirements so you should do a search for “Label Converters” or “Label Manufacturers” in your area to find someone locally who should be able to help. Remember that you will usually have to pay extra to have bespoke labels made for you (to cover the setup and manufacturing costs involved) and you may be required to order a large minimum quantity.
Printed Labels
All of our labels are supplied blank for customers to print themselves. If you are in need of printed or pre-printed labels you will need to find a Label Converter (or Label Manufacturer), Label Printer, or general Printer who can do this for you. If you simply need labels printing for you then you may be able to use a general printers; most local high streets have a printers who should be able to fulfil your requirements. If you’re needing something a bit more specialised, such as labels in a particular material or adhesive, labels for a specific label application, or labels that are pre-printed with a partial design that you will then print further details onto, you may need to speak to a company that deals specifically with the manufacture and/or printing of labels.

Application or Industry Specific Labels
You might be trying to source labels that are designed for a very specific label application or for a particular industry; in these cases, there are usually very strict requirements about the materials that can be used, the form that these labels need to be made in, and the properties that the labels need to have to function correctly and efficiently in a specific environment.

For example, the food and medical industries have very strict rules about the kinds of materials that can be used both on products and packaging and in the environments where these industries operate. Some industries require labels that are suitable for applications where they may be exposed to extreme conditions, such as immersion in water or exposure to extremes of temperature. Other label applications may involve huge volumes, which means that it is vital that the labels are provided on rolls that can be loaded onto label applicators for fast and efficient application – for example, when product or batch labels need to be applied to items as they are put together on fast moving production lines.

There are huge numbers of label types that have been developed specifically for one label application or for one industry, and are made with specific materials and specific manufacturing processes to ensure that they have the exact properties and characteristics required of labels that are to be used in those situations.

In these cases, it is best to find a company who specialise in supplying specific industries or who specialise in the production of speciality label products. You should try searches that include both the term “label converter” or “label manufacturer” and the name of your intended label application or industry. Even if a company you find doesn’t have the exact product you are looking for, it is likely that they will know of and be able to recommend one who does.

Here at Label Planet, we have a list of recommended suppliers who specialise in providing labels for specific applications and industries, including: retail product labels, food labels, electronic labels, wire and cable labels, asset labels, building and construction industries, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, horticultural labels, and steel and timber processing plants.

Label Brands
If you’re trying to buy a specific brand of label then you will need to search for a label supplier who sells that brand. Here at Label Planet we do not sell any brands of labels; all of our labels are manufactured in the UK using high quality materials and manufacturing processes.

Labels For Label Applicators/Dispensers
Some customers come to us trying to find refills for the label applicators or dispensers that they have bought elsewhere. As all of our labels are on A4 sheets, we don’t have any products that are suitable for use with applicators or dispensers (which tend to be manufactured as labels on rolls). You should either see if you are able to purchase refills from the manufacturer or supplier of the applicator or dispenser that you are using, or see if there are compatible products sold by stationery suppliers.

Labels On A Roll
We specialise in labels on A4 sheets and so do not supply labels on rolls. We do, however, recommend a company called “Etiquette”, who have assisted a number of our customers with their requirements for labels on rolls and provide excellent customer service.
(Dish)Washerproof Labels
Occasionally, we receive requests for labels that will survive a trip through the washing machine or dishwasher. None of the A4 products we provide are “washerproof”, although we do have a selection of labels that are waterproof”. While these labels will survive a thorough immersion in water, they cannot survive the conditions created in washing machines and dishwashers, which involve vigorous exposure to the variety of strong chemicals and ingredients used in cleaning products.

Washerproof labels need to be made with materials and adhesives that are designed specifically for these environments; they do, however, exist as a standard product in the form of name labels. Most name label products have been developed for use on school uniform and, here at Label Planet, we have our own versions: Stikins ® name labels (a stick on name label) and Trons ® name transfers (an iron on name transfer). Our Stikins ® are made with highly advanced materials that will survive repeated trips through the washing machine, tumble drier, dishwasher, and microwave and can be used to label clothing and all kinds of personal items. Our Trons ® use the same materials and methodology used in the clothing industry to apply designs to items of clothing such as t-shirts and, like our Stikins ®, will survive repeat visits to the washing machine and tumble drier.

Our name labels were designed specifically for parents who need to label their children’s school uniform and equipment, although they are also bought by families to label personal items and everyday clothing, along with equipment for holidays and activity groups, and by residents or friends and relatives of residents living in nursing and residential care facilities, where clothing is cleaned in shared laundry facilities and residents share common spaces, which means that clothing and personal items are easily misplaced or mixed up.

You can purchase our name labels here; you can enter the text you want or request blank labels BUT you cannot print these labels yourself (they require specialist printers and software) and you can only request standard characters (i.e. we cannot print images or logos).

Specific Material Combinations
The labels we supply are standard label products that provide our customers with a wide variety of choice at a very reasonable price. While there are hundreds and thousands of possible label combinations that we COULD choose to supply, the fact that these are NOT standard items would mean that there would be additional manufacturing costs involved and we feel that this would make these particular products too expensive to be cost effective for the majority of our customers.

For example, we often get customers asking if we do a waterproof freezer label. We have looked into the possibility of offering such a product and, while it is possible to produce such a product, the costs of combining a waterproof material with an adhesive that is both waterproof and suitable for use in freezer conditions would make such an item quite expensive. Unfortunately, the main problem with the cost of such a label is that these labels tend to be used on food and drink products. Most businesses try to ensure that the cost of producing the food and its packaging doesn’t outweigh the profit that they make on those items – a waterproof freezer label would most likely eat away at or eradicate any profit altogether.

If, however, you feel that you absolutely do want a particular material combination that we don’t offer, you can always look into sourcing a label manufacturer or converter who would be able to produce that particular item for you.

Impossible Material Combinations
Occasionally we get requests that are, unfortunately, impossible (although we would be delighted if some of them were possible!). Usually these requests occur because the requirements have been relayed through a number of different parties (in what we like to call “Label Whispers”) and have been mixed up or confused, because people aren’t quite sure what some properties and descriptions of labels actually mean, or simply because people are in a rush.
  • I Need A Label That Is… White & Transparent
    Transparent labels are completely see through and therefore colourless; if you’re looking for a label that offers both transparency and colour (whether that’s white or another colour of your choosing), what you actually need are Translucent Labels: these labels offer some degree of transparency (though not as much as transparent labels) and a choice of colours. Unfortunately, we do not supply translucent labels, so you would need to find a supplier who offers this particular kind of label product.
  • I Need A Label That Is…Gloss & Matt
    In this case, the two finishes are complete opposites – a gloss finish is bright and shiny, while a matt finish is duller and plain. However, if you’re looking for something in between, you can always opt for a semi-gloss finish, which you can find on our website here.
  • I Need A Label That Is…Paper & Waterproof
    Sadly, paper is never going to be waterproof – and we’ve all seen the damage done to paper when it is accidentally dropped into a puddle, left in the pocket of a pair of trousers or a shirt and goes through the wash, or thoroughly soaked when a drink goes flying. Waterproof products need to be made with synthetic materials (polyester, polyethylene, vinyl etc), or you need to use a paper label that is completely encased in a protective layer – which sort of defeats the purpose of having a paper label in the first place.
  • I Need A Label That Is…High Tack & Removable
    This is the request that we get the most – and the one that we really wish we could provide. Many a time we’ve received an email or spoken to a customer who is looking for a label that is “really, really strong and is completely impossible to remove…until I decide I want to remove it and then it will drop off easily without leaving any residue behind”. Sadly, a magical label that will stay absolutely resolutely in place until you demand that it drops off simply doesn’t exist, so you need to decide which option is more important to you – that your labels stay firmly in place or that they are easy to remove when you no longer need them.
