Label Planet: Trouble Finding A Template - Try The Label Planet Template Page

https://www.labelplanet.co.uk

We've updated our Templates Page with a few extra links to help customers find the template or product that they're looking for.

Templates For Rectangular Labels With Rounded Corners
Here you'll find templates for our rectangular labels that are made with rounded corners.

Templates For Rectangular Labels With Square-Cut Corners
These templates are designed for our rectangular labels that have square cut corners.

Templates For Circular Labels
Got a circular label? This is where you'll find the template you need.

Please note that the Word templates feature a grid of squares and not circles. The circular labels will fit inside the square cells that you see (although in some templates, you do also need to account for the gaps between the labels).

If in doubt, it's always wise to engage in a bit of trial and error with circular labels, so print onto blank paper first to test out the alignment.

Templates For Oval Labels
If you're printing oval labels, the templates you need are here.

Like our templates for circular labels, the Word templates cannot show the shape of the labels; instead these templates feature a grid of rectangles into which the oval labels will fit.

Again, to get the alignment just right, it's always best to print onto blank paper first and then make adjustments as required.

Templates For Square Labels
The templates for all of our square labels can be found right here.

Templates For Special Use Labels
These templates are designed for a set of our labels which were designed for special uses, including our Audio Cassette Labels, CD Labels, Data Cartridge Labels, Diskette Labels, DVD Labels, Eurofolio Labels, Lever Arch Labels, Ring Binder Labels, Slide Labels, Video Labels. These label sizes are collected on our "Media Labels" page.

Templates For Mirrored Text - Static Cling Labels
Here you'll find the templates that we designed for use with our Transparent Static Cling labels. These are set up so that you can create mirrored text that - when a label is stuck to a window - can be read correctly from the opposite side.

Please note that we have mirrored templates to suit three different versions of Word as the method of creating mirrored text differs slightly in each of these versions.

Avery Templates Listed in Avery Code Order
A list of all of the Avery template codes that are compatible with our label products. If you have an Avery code, you can search for that code in this list and find out which (if any) of our products it corresponds to.

Avery Templates listed in Label Planet Code Order
A list of all of our label products that have compatible Avery codes. If you have bought a Label Planet product and want to know which Avery code you need to use to create a template, this list will let you know which code (if any) you can use.

Cross Index of All UK Label Supplier Codes
A cross index of the codes used by UK suppliers to refer to standard label sizes.

Stikins & Trons: Update on our newest product: Trons Name Transfers

https://www.name-labels.com

Well it's almost two months since we launched our Trons Name Transfers and we just wanted to take a moment to say a big THANK YOU to all of our customers who have been giving these labels a go.

We've had a BRILLIANT response to our Trons, with people buying them in both our Combination Packs and as standalone items and we couldn't be happier.

As a completely new product, and a different direction to our Stikins name labels, we weren't sure if our customers would get as excited as us about branching out into the world of iron on name transfers.

And, to make sure we can keep up with demand, our Trons are being manufactured in bulk as we speak (type!) so we'll be all set to supply them throughout the summer (and beyond).

If you want to find out more about our newest product (or to give them a try for yourself!), head over to our Trons name transfers page on our website.

Label Planet: How Do Thermal Labels & Thermal Printers Work?

https://www.labelplanet.co.uk

Please note that this range has now been discontinued and we no longer supply any labels on rolls.

Now that we've launched a small range of thermal labels on rolls we thought we ought to write a bit about thermal labels and thermal printers and, well, all things thermal!

The Thermal Process
Thermal or direct thermal printing uses a thermal printhead to create an image on heat sensitive paper. The printhead contains heating elements (usually pins) arranged in a matrix; during the printing process these pins are selectively heated as they drag over the thermal paper. Where a heated pin is in contact with the heat sensitive paper, the paper changes colour. The thermal paper has a coating containing a dye, which determines the colour that forms during the printing process; most thermal papers will turn black when exposed to heat, although other colours (such as red and blue) are also available.

Label Planet's Thermal Labels
Our labels all measure 102mm (or 4 inches) for one length and either 51mm (2 inches), 76mm (3 inches), 102mm (4 inches), 125mm (5 inches), or 152mm (6 inches) for the second length.
The rolls have an I.D. (inner diameter or core size) of 25mm (1 inch), 38mm (1.5 inches), or 76mm (3 inches) and an O.D. (outer diameter) of 127mm (5 inches) or 203.2mm (8 inches).

This means that they are compatible with a wide range of thermal (and thermal transfer) printers (you can check our Printer Compatibility Chart to see if your printer is compatible).

Stikins & Trons: FAQ - What Is A School Commission Code?

https://www.name-labels.com

While schools may be familiar with our commission scheme, we do get questions from parents as to what exactly the school commission code is for and how it relates to their order.

So here are a few of the answers to those questions:

What is a School Reference No.?
Each school that registers with our commission scheme is given a unique code.

Do I have to enter a School Reference No.?
No. If you don't have a school reference number then it is fine to leave this box blank. If you do have a school code you should enter it so that your order helps generate funds for your school's projects.

How do I find out what my school's Reference No. is?
If you know that your school is registered you can find their number by; checking the school website or newsletters, checking for the number on the leaflet/order form that your school may have handed out to you, or letting us know the name of your school when you order so that we can add the correct code to your order. If you don't know if your school is registered or not you can always contact the school or provide us with the name of the school so we can double check this for you.

Does it mean I get a discount on my order?
No. By applying a school reference to your order, you are registering that order as one that is to earn commission for your school. 15 to 25% of the value of your order will be added to your school's ongoing commission funds, which we will then pay out once a year in October. Your school can then add the funds to whatever fundraising projects they are running and make extra progress towards their fundraising goals.

[We do, however, offer discount codes for customers throughout the year. These discounts will be advertised by email or on our blog, facebook, and twitter pages.]

Label Planet: Which Template To Use?

https://www.labelplanet.co.uk

Here at Label Planet, we offer templates for our customers to download and use free of charge.

We offer two formats of templates for customers to choose between, which should be compatible with the systems and programs that most of our customers use.

So which should you choose?

WORD:
The Word template can be used with Microsoft Office (for PC) and Microsoft Office for Mac. We do advise that you check the version of Word you are working with, as each version of Word may have functions and options in slightly different places (such as the option to turn gridlines on or off, which is accessed in different ways depending on the version of Word you have). This can also be imported into some other programs that are capable of reading and editing Word files (such as Libre Office and Open Office).

PDF:
PDFs must be opened in a graphics software package such as Photoshop or Adobe Indesign. While some programs can open PDFs (so you can view the template) they may not be able to edit them, so a graphics package is required.

Stikins & Trons: The Label Planet Name Label Line Up For Summer 2014

https://www.name-labels.com

Yes. This is a "back to school" related post. In July. We know & we're sorry.

However, we find that lots of parents like to get organised in the next few weeks and order their name labels for the next school year well in advance - in fact, we've already had a number of orders from super-duper organised parents who are getting sorted now!

So we just wanted to let all of our customers know - whether you "get it done" or "leave it late" - exactly what products are on offer from Label Planet this summer.

STIKINS:
The name label that simply sticks in and stays in. These labels are made from an advanced vinyl with a super strong adhesive. Each label measures 30mm wide by 15mm high and is suitable for all kinds of uses including; garments (when stuck onto the wash-care label), shoes, bags, personal items, and items that can be put in the microwave and/or dishwasher (including drinks bottles and lunch boxes).

TRONS:
The name transfer that irons on and stays on. These labels are made from a single layer of material impregnated with ink, which - when ironed on - bond and fuse with a fabric to produce a permanent name labelling solution. They are the perfect way to label ANY kind of fabric item - including socks!
Both of our name label products are supplied in their own packaging with a simple to follow set of instructions for application.

STIKINS and TRONS are available now (and all through the summer and beyond!) from www.stikins.co.uk.

Please note that our original product - the aptly named "Original Stikins" or "Stikins Original" - has been discontinued and, sadly, we don't have any stock remaining of our silver labels, micro labels, H-shaped garment labels, or shoe labels. We simply didn't have enough orders coming in to continue this product, although we are very grateful to know that there are customers out there who miss these labels as much as we do!

Label Planet: A Sticky Issue: Choosing The Right Adhesive For You

https://www.labelplanet.co.uk

We offer a range of adhesives to suit all kinds of labelling applications. So how do you know which is the adhesive for you?

Megatack
Our most tacky (sticky) adhesive; this adhesive is designed for labels that need to be absolutely permanent or as a solution to the problem of applying a label to unusual surfaces (e.g. highly curved or uneven) or materials (e.g. fabric samples).
[Please note that this adhesive is only available to order by phone.]

High Tack
Our second most tacky (sticky) adhesive; this adhesive is also designed for labels that need to be permanent or for applications that involve an unusual surface or material. This adhesive is stronger than our standard permanent adhesive, when there is a need for an adhesive that has that extra bit of strength.

Standard Permanent
The standard adhesive used on most of our label products. This adhesive is intended to create a permanent bond between a label and a surface, on a wide range of materials and surface types. This adhesive acts like a standard removable adhesive when applied to fabric/clothing.

Marine Permanent
This is a special permanent adhesive that is designed for waterproof products. To achieve the marine standard (BS5609), an adhesive is tested in marine conditions for three months. This type of adhesive produces a waterproof, strong permanent adhesive that is suitable for a wide range of materials and uneven or curved surfaces.

Standard Removable
This adhesive is designed to allow a label to bond to a surface, while also being easy to remove as needed. Removable adhesives tend to be used when a label is needed on a temporary basis only.

Super Removable
This adhesive was specially designed for use on glass items (and is sometimes known as "Glass Removable"); it is designed to allow a label to be applied to a surface and then removed easily and cleanly (in other words, to leave no trace of adhesive residue behind). This adhesive should be used in place of a standard removable adhesive when the surface or item being labelled is made of a fragile material (such as glass or paper) that must not be damaged by the removal of the label.

Freezer Adhesive
Another special adhesive, this adhesive is designed for use on items that are to be stored in freezer conditions, such as food and drink items or medical and research samples.

Stikins & Trons: Stikins or Trons? Stikins or Trons? Or Both!

https://www.name-labels.com

Now our customers have a choice of name label products, so they can pick the option that best suits their needs.

Stikins
Type of name label: Stick on label
Suitable for: Pretty much everything! (clothing with a wash care label, shoes and bags, personal items, and items that go in the microwave and/or dishwasher)
Not suitable for: Socks! (and possibly some fabric items without a wash care label)

Trons
Type of name label: Iron on transfer
Suitable for: Fabric items
Not suitable for: Non-fabric items

Of course, sometimes both is best! This is why we also offer combination packs of Stikins and Trons. These options can be found at the bottom of both our Stikins and Trons ordering pages and have codes that begin "NT".

Label Planet: Why Do I Need A Laser Or An Inkjet Printer?

https://www.labelplanet.co.uk

You may have noticed that we specify on our product pages whether a product is compatible with inkjet or laser printers (or both).

This is because some of our materials are designed specifically to suit one of these printing process and not both. This means that if you tried to print on laser labels with an inkjet printer or on inkjet labels with a laser printer, the ink and toner (respectively) would not bond to the material correctly and the print would smudge or rub away.

Broadly speaking, the inkjet printing process uses water-based inks that dry in place, while the laser printing process uses heat and pressure to fuse toner in place and the materials used to make some of our labels are only suited to one of these processes.

So which labels are suitable for which type of printer?
LASER ONLY
Freezer Labels*
Gloss Paper Labels (for laser)
Fluorescent Labels
Gold & Silver Paper Labels
Gloss Transparent Polyester Labels (permanent & removable adhesive)
Matt Transparent Polyester Labels
Gloss White Polyester Labels
Matt White Polyester Labels (permanent & removable adhesive)
Silver Matt Metallic Polyester Labels
Matt White Polyethylene Labels*

INKJET ONLY
Gloss Clear Polyester Labels
*Freezer Labels & Matt White Polyethylene Labels can be printed using an inkjet printer but as this does not produce waterproof print we generally recommend that these products are for use with laser printers only.

BOTH
Standard Matt White Paper Labels
Removable Paper Labels
Super Removable Paper Labels
Photo Quality Gloss Paper Labels
Premium Quality Paper Labels
Coloured Labels
High Tack Paper Labels

You can take a look at the properties and specifications of all of our label materials by visiting our Complete List Of Label Materials page.

Stikins & Trons: Stikins & Trons Delivery Times In July

https://www.name-labels.com

We just wanted to update our customers on our current despatch/delivery times.

Through July, all orders placed by 3pm (Mon-Fri) will be despatched same day via Royal Mail's first class service.

Orders placed after 3pm Monday to Thursday will be processed on the next working day and orders placed after 3pm on Friday and over the weekend will be processed on the following Monday.

We do have a couple of tips to help make sure your name labels arrive on time:
- Around 93% of Royal Mail's first class service does arrive the next day with the remainder taking a day or two extra - meaning this is not a guaranteed service. If you do need to place an urgent order, then please give us a call so we can add on a next working shipping option.
- If your items haven't arrived (and they were sent via first class post), please allow five working days for your items to arrive. If your items haven't arrived after this time, please get in touch with us and we'll arrange a replacement service for you.

Label Planet: Standard Versus Bespoke Sizes

https://www.labelplanet.co.uk

Here at Label Planet we don't manufacture or supply bespoke sizes of labels - we favour a set of standard sizes that will (hopefully) provide a solution to suit the needs of our customers.

So why do we stick with standard sizes?

- They're available in a wider range of materials, colours & adhesives - to suit all kinds of label applications.

- They're readily available, which means we can keep a large number of sizes, materials, colours, and adhesives in stock - and make them available to our customers for same day despatch.

- Templates for these products are built in to existing software and online trading platforms - so there's no need to spend time perfecting bespoke templates.

- They don't need to be made especially to order each and every time - which means we can offer our products at better prices. Bespoke orders tend to have higher minimum quantity orders, longer lead times, and higher prices than our standard sizes.

So, why not take a look at the range of sizes we offer and see if there's one (or two!) that are right for you.

Stikins & Trons: Trons - The Transfer To Suit Troublesome Socks

https://www.name-labels.com

We've been selling name labels since 2004 and we had one pesky problem that simply refused to go away.

And what was that problem? Socks!!

Socks are tricky to label because they get stretched and worn so much on a day to day basis. While sew-in labels are one solution, we wanted to be able to provide a name label that was as easy to use as our Stikins - with no sewing required!

Which is why we are so delighted with our new product: Trons name transfers.

These name transfers simply iron on to provide a quick and easy permanent name labelling solution for ALL fabric items - including socks! The labels are made from a single layer of material that is impregnated with ink; they require a single iron on application during which they bond and fuse fully with fabric items to create a permanent name label.

To find out more or to buy Trons name transfers, simply visit our website here.

Label Planet: Top Tip - Stop Labels Curling Up

https://www.labelplanet.co.uk

Here's a top tip from Label Planet.

If you find that your labels begin to curl up when you peel them off the backing sheet, try peeling them off in a different direction (i.e. start with the bottom edge and pull them upwards, rather than starting with the left/right edge and pulling them sideways).

How Does This Work?
This tip relates to the "grain" of label materials. Grain refers to the direction that the majority of the elements in a material are lying in; for example, paper is made up of log-shaped fibres - during the manufacturing process, these fibres will end up lying predominantly in one direction.

Materials have greater dimensional stability with the grain; this means that when you peel a label off its backing sheet AGAINST THE GRAIN (in other words, in the opposite direction to the grain direction), the label is much more likely to curl up than if you peel the label off WITH THE GRAIN (in the same direction as the grain direction).

In our label products the grain runs from top to bottom (or bottom to top) of the sheet when it is in the portrait orientation. So, if you peel a label off by pulling the right or left edge of the label sideways you are more likely to find that the label curls than if you pull the bottom edge up or the top edge down.

This tip might come in handy if you find that your labels are curling up and then struggling to stay on the surface or object you are labelling, particularly if you are labelling a rounded surface or object.

Stikins & Trons: FAQ - Trons: How Do They Work?

https://www.name-labels.com

Our Stikins were designed to be as simple as possible (they stick on and they stay on!) and we've designed our Trons with a similar aim in mind - to make them quick and easy to apply so parents don't have to spend hours labelling.

So, here's our step by step guide to applying your Trons name transfers:

STEP ONE:
Place your garment onto a hard, flat surface (such as a kitchen worktop). Remove one of your Trons transfers from the backing sheet and position it on the garment face up.

STEP TWO:
Place the sheet of silicon paper over the top of the Trons transfer.

STEP THREE:
Heat your iron to the maximum temperature for the garment and press it down over the silicon sheet for 20 to 30 seconds.

STEP FOUR:
Carefully peel off the silicon paper sheet while it is still hot.

And that's it!

We've printed these instructions onto the back of each sheet of Trons transfers so you'll always have a copy to hand - if you need an extra copy, you can also view and download a copy from our website.

Label Planet: Despatch & Delivery - When Will My Labels Arrive?

https://www.labelplanet.co.uk

Here at Label Planet we aim to get your labels despatched and delivered to you as quickly and efficiently as we can - but, of course, the timings do depend on what item(s) you're ordering and the quantity you need.

So, how do you know how long your order will take?

Generally speaking, our products can be divided into two groups, which determines the despatch estimate:

1. Stocked items (orders under 500 sheets)
These items are kept in our office as stock, which means they are ready and available for same day despatch when orders are placed before 4:30pm (Mon-Fri).

These items can be identified on our website as the items with a 25 sheet minimum order quantity. They are grouped at the top of the range pages, and are the only items to have a 25 sheet option on the product page - essentially, if you can order 25 sheets, then the item is generally in stock and available for same day despatch.

2. Stocked items (orders over 500 sheets) and unstocked items
These items are either kept in stock at our warehouse or are made to order, which means that the despatch/delivery times for these items will vary slightly:

- Standard paper with a permanent adhesive: these items are kept in stock at our warehouse and will be despatched on a next working day carrier service (when orders are placed before 3pm). The only exception would be if a very high volume is required, in which case the items would be made to order, usually within two to three days.

- Non-standard items (including special adhesives, polyester & polyethylene materials, colours etc): these items are made to order, which means they have a despatch estimate of up to five working days.
If you have any questions about how long a particular item will take to be despatched/delivered - or if you have a particularly urgent order - we do advise customers to get in touch with us and we can confirm the estimates for that particular item.

Our standard delivery is either Royal Mail's first class service (stocked items sent from our office, under 250 sheets) or a next working day carrier service (UK mainland). We do have next working day delivery options, which are available either in the checkout (if available for the particular items/quantity being ordered) or for orders placed by phone. We do encourage customers to add one of these shipping options if they have a deadline that they need to meet - even on smaller orders as Royal Mail's first class is not a guaranteed service (while around 93% of first class mail does arrive the next day, the remainder will take a extra day or so - particularly if the item is being sent long distance or to London).

For items being sent outside of the UK mainland, the delivery times will vary slightly:

Northern Ireland:
Standard delivery is Royal Mail's first class service or a 2-3 working day carrier service. Optional shipping upgrades may be available in the checkout or by phone.

Islands with UK postcodes:
Standard delivery is Royal Mail's first class service or a 2-3 working day carrier service. Optional shipping upgrades may be available in the checkout or by phone.

Southern Ireland:
As shipping charges depend on the items/quantity being ordered, orders must be placed by phone so that accurate shipping information/pricing can be given (standard shipping is by either Royal Mail's internation signed for service or a 2-3 working day carrier service).

Other destinations:
We do not despatch items outside of the UK & Ireland, although we have a sister company trading on Amazon UK, who do supply some of our products to international customers.

Label Planet: Finding the Right Template for You

https://www.labelplanet.co.uk

With labels come templates and if you've never set one up before (or even if you've got plenty of template experience) they can throw up a whole host of issues - including the simple fact of finding or setting up the right template in the first place.

So what are your options?

1. Set up your own template
It's possible to set up label templates in all kinds of software - all you need to get started are the measurements of your labels; the height and width of the labels, the number of labels in each row and column, the horizontal and vertical pitch of the labels (this measurement accounts for any gaps between the labels), and any borders around the edge of the sheet. Of course, it can be a bit of a game of trial and error to get things just right, so we advise printing onto blank paper while you perfect your design and test out the alignment.

2. Use a pre-existing template
Some software features built-in templates; the most common example is Microsoft Word, which includes a number of Avery templates. Many of our labels are compatible with Avery products, which means that you can use an Avery template to print onto these labels.

Some of our more common sizes will have their compatible Avery template code displayed where they appear on our website. However, for a full list of products that are compatible with Avery sizes, you simply need to visit our Avery compatible labels page.

This page lists ALL of our products that have compatible Avery template codes, so all you need to do is see if the Label Planet product code for the labels you have purchased from us appears on this page and (if it does) use the Avery code (or one of the Avery codes) that are listed next to that product to select a pre-existing template in Word. When locating the Avery code in Word, you do need to make sure that you have selected "Avery A4/A5" from the list of vendors.

3. Download one of our templates from labelplanet.co.uk
We've set up a Word and a PDF template for each label size that we supply and all of them are available to download from our website for free. You simply need to locate the product code of your labels and then choose either the Word or PDF template to download. We do advise customers that every computer and printer differs slightly and so it is always best to print your design onto blank paper first, so that you can check the alignment against your labels and make adjustments as needed.

And, remember, we are always happy to assist customers with template issues - whether you have a couple of questions, need a bit of advice with a particular issue, or you've never set up a template before, just get in touch with us and we'll do our very best to help.

Stikins & Trons: Have You Tried Trons Yet?

https://www.name-labels.com

We've been delighted with the response to the launch of our brand new name transfer product, Trons - it's fantastic to see so many of our customers giving our new name labels a try!

Trons are easy to use iron-on name transfers that can be transferred directly onto garments (including socks!) or wash-care and garment labels. Each transfer is made of an extremely thin layer of material that has been impregnated with ink; once ironed on, both the material and the ink bond and fuse with the garment to create a permanent labelling solution.

Many of our customers have opted for one of our combinations packs, which provide the best of both worlds, with half the pack being Stikins and half being Trons - so you can label pretty much anything!

Stikins and Trons are also available as separate items, which can be ordered here (Trons) (Stikins).
